I know this has been discussed before, but I'm curious about other's current reserves. For factory made ammo...

I currently have about 2~3 hundred .223/.556 rounds in an ammo can, but can honestly say I haven't shot that caliber in over a year.

I probably have about 1500 or so 22lr.

I have maybe 100 .38spcl and .357mag combined.

A few thousand 45acp (what I shoot the most).

And finally 33 rounds of 480 Ruger.

A box of 30.06 core lokt.

For reloading...

I have enough supplies to last for a year or two at least for my current shooting. Probably three to four years. But I don't compete and don't get to the range or cabin as often as I used to.

Let's keep politics and the current covid19 situation out of this discussion, just how much you normally keep in reserve. Thanks!

I’m not one of the folks that’s sick and tired of hot/cold running water, A/C, WiFi etc. and cant wait for the apocalypse to hit so I’m guessing I might be on the low end of ready to shoot ammo stock.

Rarely shoot these:
2K 7.62 NATO
Approx 1.5K 5.56
8K (+/-) .22 LR
1.5K .40 S&W
1K .45 ACP

Close guess is I have enough components/powder to easily load 15-25K in .327....357 Mag.....44 Mag....45 Colt. Those calibers play on both sides of the line as I have handguns and rifles for all of them.

More than likely primers would be the first to run out.

Prob have about 1K in various hunting calibers...243-30-30...30-06....358 Winchester....300 Win Mag etc.

Not sure what I have in Shotgun ammo... prob a little thin on slugs and 00 Buck but hunting ammo is prob approaching 1K in .410....20 and 12 gauge...all upland and heavy duck loads.

all of it secured behind concrete and steel.

Like @horsemen61, I try to keep enough on hand so that I can continue to shoot at my (and family's) pace for 2 years. That comes from seeing a couple of banics before, and knowing about how long they will last.

For factory made ammo ... how much you normally keep in reserve.
Since this is Handloading & Reloading category, you will likely get replies from members on reloaded rounds and reloading components. If you wanted generic stocking of factory ammunition under normal conditions, "Handguns: General Discussions" would be more appropriate subcategory - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?forums/handguns-general-discussion.10/

Since I reload, I don't keep much factory ammunition, which is the primary purpose of reloading, to not buy factory ammunition. ;)

22LR ammunition is the exception and I prefer to keep more than 30,000+ rounds as I use CMMG 22LR conversion kits for my ARs and GSG 1911 for training/range drills. (9mm PCCs and CMMG 22LR AR conversion kits are used to save on ammunition cost where shooting drills do not require full power .223/5.56 recoil)

During the past 2 years, I have found I am shooting through around 8,000+ rounds a year for plinking and testing for THR - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...lector-3-break-in.859106/page-2#post-11405547
For reloading ... I have enough supplies to last for a year or two at least for my current shooting. Probably three to four years.
As to keeping loaded rounds on hand, I prefer to have at least 500-1000 rounds of calibers I shoot on a regular basis and reloading to maintain that par level on a monthly basis.

Exception is 9mm which I keep more on hand as I found Pistol Caliber Carbines can eat up ammunition way faster than pistols.

As to reloading components on hand, I used to keep 1-2 years worth but after going through several component shortages, especially the "Great Component Shortage", I now keep at least 3-5 years worth of components - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...ading-components-available-these-days.707473/

Thank you LiveLife, maybe I should have been more clear. I stated factory ammo that I have for reference only. I should have titled this thread better. Maybe "How long will your reloading components last based on your current shooting?"

I haven't purchased any factory ammo besides rimfire since I started loading about two years ago.

Can I change the thread title, or is it set?

Enough components on hand here that I don't feel the need to look for more for some time.
That said, I was told by one daughter that her friends husband is in this desert and short on supplies. If he is legit, I'm willing to help him if necessary. And I started looking in case.

At the current pace there's a possibility I'll need new brass before I need other stuff. I've tried a few methods and I'm at about a 10% lost brass rate for semi-autos. That's down from about 20% in the past.

I keep a set amount off to the side that is never used, it's my SHTF stash and will remain that way.

The rest if a system of FIFO on rotation. I haven't shot a factory round in some time, I mostly reload what I shoot.

I can stretch my stash for a long time, considering that I stay in conserve mode. No more two brick afternoons for now.
Probably less than 1k spp, less than 1k lpp. Probably 2.5k 209s. I have plenty of powder for the primer supply.
I looked way back in the back of my ammo dump and found considerable amount of 3f. That'll run my .45 flintlock for a while.

Maybe enough to load 50 rounds per week of range ammo for about a year. That's for my SD guns. Other components (for various other guns) wouldn't last nearly as long shooting at that volume.

But it's more than I can carry on my back.

Thanks again LiveLife, where do I find the "Thread Tools" option?
Top right of the screen, just left of "Unwatch Thread".

If you don't see the "Thread Tools", too much time may have passed and that option is no longer visible and you need to PM moderator Walkalong so he can change the thread title for you.

About 3k 22lr, 300 .223, and a harbor freight ammo can of a few more. Less 30 carbine, 32long, 38sw, .380, and no dadgummed 32acp . I swore off the 32 ACP a while back but then found the 1914 and fell in love with the beautiful ugliness.

I keep enough reserves to defend my house or have enough to arm my wife and kids with enough reserve to bug out to a fall back position should the world go to ****. Since I don’t have a deuce and a half to transport what I’d like, I still need to be mobile yet well armed. A 50/50 blend of range ammo and SD ammo in the reloading room. I’m actually running out of storage area for my ammo in its current location.

I TRY to keep enough reloading componants and supplies to last at least five years. That's at my normal usage today. On hand I keep enough loaded ahead for a range trip with anything I own. I do have lots of processed brass waiting to be reloaded.

Enough that I don't notice the ammo shortage. Not so much that I feel like profiteering off the ammo shortage.

This.

I've helped a couple friends out, hundred rounds here and there.

Otherwise, everything can sit and ill get back to normal buying and shooting when this levels out...
