Maybe I want catch crape for this but my eye sight is really went to crape, can't see off far can't see up close no meeting in the middle. So has anyone put a reflex sight on a Marlin of any calibers. I have a 44 mag and 375, 444, 45/70 3030 and a Winchester 94 32 SPL. I can't see diddly squat. Even with my New glasses it's just not the same and I don't want a bulkey scope. Now I'm talking about a Burris ff 3 or a vortex venom, ECT" my shots are under 100 yards. Anyone have information good or bad. Thanks for the information.

Yup - I have used red dots on 1894’s, 1895’s, and 336’s for years. I prefer scopes overall, but I haven’t been able to effectively use iron sights for a long time, so my “minimum” sight solution is a red dot.

Turnbull makes a very nice micro red dot sight mount which replaces the rear sight on these rifles, or you can mount one on the receiver. Plan to add a riser to the stock to raise your eye without sacrificing your cheek weld. I put the Turnbull mount under a Trijicon RMR on one of my 336’s for use this winter.

The Burris FF3 is available with a 3moa. Comparatively, a .1” wide front sight bead subtends ~12moa. In other words, a 3moa red dot is a finer aiming reference than iron sights. A shooter with a red dot sight, well practiced, should be able to meet or beat their performance with iron sights - and do so with faster target and sight picture acquisition.

I've got this little guy on a Rossi 92 44mag.

It's a TRS-25, a little bigger than a fastfire but much much cheaper and very durable. I think it was on sale around $60 and I consider it money well spent.

Sounds like what I need. I put a holosun. Green dot on my youth remington 870 20 gauge. It works really well. So I figure it would work on my lever guns.

I feel your pain. Have you tried a peep sight. I don't like the aesthetics of optics on my levers and my eyesight didn't handle the factory sights any more. A Williams peep gave me a much easier sight picture.

I have the Turnbull sight base as well with a FF3 3 MOA.

For the Marlin it is the way to go I think. It is light and keeps things balanced like you don’t even have an optic mounted.

Just put a 1X4 scope on it or a fixed power 2.5X or similar and be happy. The lever gun anti-scope and anti-cross bolt safety folks will hammer you but while they squint with their old eyes to see anything, you will actually be able to use your rifle effectively.

I do not think this any uglier than a battery operated red dot:

Works great, wonderful in fact and with the Warne QR rings it comes off and on in seconds for use of the standard open sights. So when you go hunting you can cheat and use a scope and when you are hanging out with the anti-scope, anti-cross bolt lever fellas ( :) ) at the range then you can remove the scope and pretend you do not need it. ;)

I put a peep on my 94AE and I only have to see the front sight now. Not perfect but with 20/40 it helps.

Before I come off as too purist I put scopes on mine to test loads and have considered leaving them on. Just couldn't. My eyes are not getting better though and I imagine the time will come when there's no choice. 3crows that's a good looking piece you have.

Just the other day, there I was shooting my Marlin 39 with the Williams rear aperture I added to it maybe 15 years ago.

Laying prone, shooting in light that wasn't bright, fumbling between three aperture sizes attempting to focus the front sight.

Yeah, it's probably red dot or scope time for that gun for me.

I tried a red dot, but my astigmatism didn't play ball. So I rock low power scopes, as small as I can find them.

I tend to also prefer LPVO’s, or frankly, even prefer higher powered optics, and rarely do use red dots - but I almost NEVER use irons at all any more. Largely only to practice well enough to remain proficient - but certainly not out of preference or advantage.

I shoot back and forth right and left handed - my left eye tends to make a round dot look like a comma or comet, my right eye is somewhere between pigeon poop on a sidewalk and bug splatter on a windshield. But as long as I put the comma or pigeon poop on the target, I still hit where I want.

Prism sights can look and feel like a tube type red dot (not micro type, open window red dot), so that is an option for folks who can’t get comfortable with the idea of a starburst red dot due to astigmatism. No starburst.

But personally, my astigmatism is bad enough that I lose my front sight when I sink into the rear, unless my rear notch is quite wide, which robs accuracy in itself, so red dots, even pigeon poop splatters, remain more precise on target than irons.

Lmao now that's funny. But a good idea. I don't care what people think I use my guns and do what I have to in order to see lol

That is the Burris Scout Scope in 2.75X fixed power. They have a 2X7 also.

It is using the Warne steel QR rings and the Lever rail (which was standard on the SBL).

Edit to add, I once upon a time did not like the scout concept. It is different but it also works very well if given a chance. I even have a scout on my Benjamin 392:

A small reflex or rds.......not changing the weight/ balance and allowing old eyes to run such handy rifles......Sounds like a great idea even if some purists object.
