Traveling armed today

My usual area setup is just my CCW, a spare 18 round mag and a nother spare mag in the car.

When we travel to the bigger cities to see family I bring my travelling bag with a few more spare mags (and the little gun safe to store the gun at night, and extra medical supplies, etc).

Not riots but we did have the misfortune of being on the road when some nutbag decided to just start shooting cars on the interstate, we were actually near a stretch and time when he killed a woman, and happened to be driving the other way when the police had stopped him, was just across the causeway and saw him get shot by about 4 deputies. Thank goodness they were good shots cause a stray would have been coming right at me and my very pregnant wife.

My eyeballs, brain and a little bit of foresight. It’s a lot easier to avoid confrontation than try to shoot your way out of one, at least for me.

With these pop up, no warning, riots and their penchant for taking over highways, with the nature of some interchanges avoidance may not be possible even if you see it coming, it may be too late.

I'm also still reminded of the scene years back when a flash mob from Milwaukee decided to go to the state fair and mob up and abuse folks stuck in bumper to bumper traffic trying to leave the fair. Abusing people, damaging vehicles, everything. I'm sure there were kids in some of those cars too, very scary. Before the state had CCW or there might have been more "newsworthy" events that night.

Not looking for it...it has found me twice.
First was a customer in Denver wanted some repair work done. Punch the address into the GPS and away I go. Took me right downtown by the capital. ***. If it's a riot or a toll road Google Maps takes you right to it. Protesters everywhere but nothing happened to me or the truck.

Second time was in Aurora picking up my kids from Grandmas house. Maybe 100 cars slow rolling road block clogging up the road. People hanging out of car windows with signs screaming at the sky. I'm sitting at a red light watching this creep towards me. Light turned green and I turned left in front of the two lead cars. Got on the highway back to Golden Co.

Same place about a week later was the shooting on I 225 involving a blue Jeep driving past the protesters. Protester shoots two other protesters as he tries to shoot the jeep. You probably seen it on the news.

Glock 22 with 2 extra mags. Better than nothing but want something mounted in the bed that's belt fed.
I have traveled everywhere with my job. I always disliked downtown Denver. Definitely gives the state of Colorado a bitter taste. Too bad. I liked it better when we stayed sometimes at an airport hotel. Less drama.

Took a road trip from TX to CO in mid-June. Wore my G43X EDC and an extra mag (Shield Arms 15+1). Also had my G17 w/ 2*21 Magpul mags and wife har her G19 w/reload. Honestly didn’t know what to expect...but all was fine. We avoided most big cities.

Just got back from a month long RV trip from Louisville KY to Stanley, Idaho....rafted the Middle Fork of the Salmon River..fantastic fishing there, folks. Then over through Yellowstone & Grand Tetons for another week. Wife & I carried a Sig P365 for her and my 3" bbl'd, S&W M-60 .357 on my hip the entire time. No bears, no felons, no rioters, just plain ole good folks enjoying this wonderful country of ours. I did have a buffalo watch me re-tying a leader tippet on Slough Creek in Yellowstone...50 yds from me...and I decided to fish down stream for the remainder of the PM.

RV camps were no sweat, & no need for reservations except in Yellowstone where they're booked up a by Jan 3rd each year. Only scary time was contending with the St. Louis a$$ heinies who drive like they're living a video game. Sure wish there was an alternative bypass route around that eye sore when traveling east-west. Once past St. Louis, however, westbound, US36 from Hannibal, MO to St. Joe MO beats the heck out of I-70 and you don't have to contend with Kansas City BS. Virtually zero traffic on that more northern route, too.

An excellent common sense post by a fellow fly fisherman.
Mrs and I just returned from Florida for a week long beach soak.
We did a little fishing too.

We drove the 16hr trip, avoiding Atlanta by traveling I-65 south from Nashville. I was uneasy about Birmingham and Montgomery, but it was smooth sailing. On the return trip I wasnt worried about Montgomery because it was pouring rain, but stopped at a hotel for the night so we wouldn't be passing through Birmingham at 1030pm Saturday night. The road was empty Sunday morning. I'm guessing protesters were likely in church at that time. I was probably over-cautious, but it was a smooth trip. All of our stops were friendly as ever. People were courteous and polite.
I carried two pistols, my ever-present lcp and my SR9C. Mrs had her lcp as well. I have always had a cavalier attitude about carrying my lcp. I don't know if its because I'm getting older, or because my shoulder is so screwed up that I cant run a flyrod or clean and load my muzzleloader....maybe it's just the current times, but I find myself wanting more gun than 8rds of .380.
My SR9C has 17+1 capacity. In my travel kit, I carry two 17s and two compact 10rd mags plus a spare box of ammo, and a weapon light. That's 104rds total.

I haven't left the house unarmed in twenty years. Being retired I really don't have to travel unless I desire which is most likely to TX to see my son and years ago I gave him a 3" Mod 64 and having a permit that TX honors, I really do not have to worry about having something close at hand when I am out of state.

In our 2020 world what do you carry/take with you when traveling out of state to states that have reciprocity with your states CCW license. Never knowing when you might encounter an angry mob.
I typically carry my Sig P938 Legion, and bring along my Sig P220 in 10mm, and my SA XDs-45 as a beater.
