Wow. Such negativity from so many gun owners toward the NRA.

Better watch it when you say...let it die. I promise, you will regret saying that if it does

Maybe so .... maybe so. But it has to be said that the N.R.A. itself may have provided the nimrod A.G. of The Naked City the very ammunition it needs to bring down a 149 year old institution that has, despite its shortcomings, been a Lion in defense of our 2A rights.

I hope, if it fails, another organization, perhaps a current one, will step up.

I hope it does NOT lead to the extinction of our gun rights .... or another ..... civil war...:uhoh::(

Rather short article but I can't say its wrong.

"The NRA's influence has been so powerful that the organization went unchecked for decades while top executives funneled millions into their own pockets," James said in a statement. "The NRA is fraught with fraud and abuse, which is why, today, we seek to dissolve the NRA, because no organization is above the law."[QUOTE]

Sounds like the same thing political parties have been doing for years along with a lot of charities. If you do one you have to do all of them.

Prior to filing the lawsuit the New York AG had summonsed 90 present and former board members. Her office spent months deposing board members, former contractors and NRA leadership. Spent about 30 minutes perusing the summons. Things that caught my eye were La Pierre and three cronies, under the table deals, failings by members of the compensation committee and lying on official reports.

Here is the 169 page lawsuit by the NY AG.

I'm just as disgusted with the corruption in the NRA leadership but to destroy the entire organization is beyond stupid. It takes years and lots of dollars to build an organization of this size. It is a Pollyanna unicorn fantasy that one of the small pro 2nd organization could step in and fill those shoes. During the time it would take to build an organization of the size needed the antis will have won and there won't be a need for an NRA replacement. Don't let your hatred for the leadership over rule common sense.

NRA,i'm not a member,if fraud is proving would you members except facts?
Yes I would. But, Would I think the NRA should be dissolved? No. Would they seek to dissolve any other organization??? Or would they just seek to punish those who committed fraud? Understand, It's to get Rid Of, Destroy, End the NRA. Nothing Less. This is from the anti 2nd amendment, anti gun, anti Constitution crowd. You better pay attention. This could cost you more than you want to pay.

You gotta know the nyga does not give a crap about corruption in the NRA management. The NRA has been a thorn in the anti 2nd amendment, anti gun, anti freedom crowd all these years. They would love to see it torn down. When the NRA falls it will signal a new push to end the 2nd amendment and your right to be free in this country. Best to understand That When the 2nd amendment falls so does your Freedom. If they can destroy the 2nd amendment or "Any Part " of the Constitution the rest is worthless paper. When that happens all you will have left is the "Bones" tossed to you. Maybe.

Yes, but it was the NRA that gave the NY AG the opening to attack. Blame the NRA not the AG. W we were betrayed by those who asked for our trust

I'm beyond disgusted how Wayne LaPierre has used the NRA to line his pockets.

People have been trying to remove him for years, and he kicks them out for daring to defy him.

It is not (contrary to the AG's request) in the interest of the members to dissolve the NRA, but her request to remove LaPierre for cause absolutely IS in the interest of the membership.

I guarantee you that the ag is Not Acting "In the Interest of The Members.

Odd how many here want to cure the cancer by killing the patient.
That NY AG knows a thing or two about politics. Divide and Conquer.
You can lay blame on the NY AG or the Anti's/Dems, but the bottom line is Wayne is the problem, not the solution, and it's impossible to remove him from his position within the NRA. Chris Cox got booted, but not Wayne, so if it's so easy to remove Cox, then why isn't it as easy to remove Wayne?

Because Wayne and his entourage own the NRA. If Wayne's not going to resign from the NRA and instead ask for more money to pay for his legal fees, then it's right for the AG to view the NRA as an asset owned by Wayne, like Bernie Madoff and his "investment firm."

Nope. I'm blaming the AG. The fact they're focused on taking down the entire organization, rather than holding just the people accountable - accountable - for the alleged misdeeds, tells me all I need to know. They're telling us all a straight-up lie saying it's "not politically motivated" while they leverage their authority to silence the effective voice of pro-2A constituents nationwide. It's the difference between being pinched on St. Patty's day for not wearing green vs getting hit in the face with a baseball bat. The pinch annoys, the bat is an assault. Everyone thinking the NRA doesn't work for us should reflect on why it's always under attack.

Ok, So you are right. It's all wayns fault. So Why dissolve the entire NRA??? Why not go after wayne???

If it lost its tax status, NRA would likely have to, and I would argue should, abandon all of its tax exempt activities, such as NRA Matches, Eddie Eagle, Hunter Ed, etc etc, and focus entirely on politics and lobbying. NRA-ILA might be the only thing that survives. But let's be honest with ourselves, the PAC was the lion's share of what NRA was doing. Participation in NRA-sanctioned matches has been dwindling for years, if not decades. No school district I ever heard of is using Eddie Eagle in their schools. So those tax-exempt activities are rapidly becoming inconsequential. There are other governing bodies, such as CMP, International Hunter Ed Assoc., etc. that can take over those activities.

Side bonus: if this allows more effective organizations, such as GOA and SAF to rise to the forefront of the battle, that will be a good thing. NRA needs to do some soul searching.
I was an elementary and junior high school student in the 90s and early 00s and have never heard of Eddie Eagle before and I was always in rural school districts where hunting was popular and guns would presumably be in homes.

In the years since I've been a member at an NRA affiliated range, I've never once gone to an NRA match and have no real interest to.

It's been obvious for years, maybe decades, that it's the ILA that rocks the boat in Washington and in state capitols across the country. The NRA itself doesn't do much of anything except send out the letters begging for more money, help fund the gun clubs who push new members to join the NRA, pay youtube channels to tell people to join the NRA, and run the museum.

You're absolutely right about how smaller, more effective, and more responsible organizations to get attention and new members. It's amazing how all the millions of NRA members out there have all the money they do to buy more guns, but don't have $20 to join the GOA or SAF, yet they're all ready to march in lockstep to defend the NRA because the NRA is the only shield to defend the 2nd Amendment.

Read the second paragraph and there's your answer. NRA members don't own the NRA, they're customers. They pay to get some stickers and merch saying they're a member of Wayne & Co. Don't pay Wayne & Co. and you're not a customer anymore.

Five pages of posts, and best I can tell, only two members have alluded to the timing of the lawsuit. Y'all want to get caught up in this now and contribute to keeping this drama in the news -- just more unfavorable publicity that'll blow back on the Republican party, it's not gonna improve our long-term future odds.

No matter what one's feelings about the NRA are, we should ignore this at least until after the elections. Then, when all the socialists have taken power, we can cheerfully help dismantle the one organization, that like it or not, has been a major factor in stopping some atrocious attacks on our RKBA over the years.

Again. Then why not just punish wayne? Wayne does not own the NRA either. He can be replaced. Why desolve 3 million members organization?? It will just be another one step to the end.

Throughout history there have been "leadership changes" at the height of battle. Wishing the demise of the NRA is a fool's errand at a time when coherent cohesive political power (millions of members/voters) is vital to win in less than 3 months. Research some history of the NRA, start with Harlon Carter and the GCA of 1968. He is a controversial figure, the NRA is not. We have been here before and have emerged stronger after the "trial" as long as we don't start attacking each other/ walking away. Joe

The NRA's customers (who you call members) aren't tied to the NRA, they can take their business elsewhere to other gun lobby groups and orgs, even make a completely new NRA, one where the executive director is voted in not by a board, but directly from the members, that way when they get comfortable with their fat salary and start wearing custom fitted suits instead of what can be found at Men's Warehouse or Joseph A. Bank, the members can vote them out for someone new.

LaPierre is corrupt, the NRA is corrupt. Has been for a very long time. Through and through. Besides, it has never really been a defender of the 2nd Amendment anyway. The NRA capitulates. The NRA compromises. The NRA collaborates. It has a LONG history of working against Liberty. The NRA is the hand that operates the knob of the stove that is boiling the frogs. The NRA makes sure that the heat gets turned up slowly... but always turned UP, never down.

Yes, the lawsuit is politically motivated. Obviously. But still... LaPierre deserves it. And frankly, the NRA deserves it. I won't shed one tiny tear if Wayne gets thrown in the slammer, and the NRA is no longer around to collaborate with the enemy.

Of course this is pure anti-gun politics, but that doesn’t mean it might not be to our benefit in the long run if it finally clears out LaPierre and his sycophants. It’s sort of like high-dose chemotherapy where they have to almost kill the patient in order to kill the tumor. If NY dissolves the NRA it could easily be reborn in a more friendly state with the existing members and most of the organizational structure.

5 years ago, I would have said the same thing but this year, they’ve done almost nothing with regards to legislation. Their website updates with breaking news that’s days old. They’re moving at the speed of dial-up in a fiber optic world. I honestly think they’re trying to keep the checks coming in and that’s it.
