Truthfully, I have no love for the AR platform. I do own one and decided to dust it off and get reacquainted with it in light of recent social/political events. It will be backup to my M-1carbine (dates me I know). It is a stock M & P 15 originally sporting a carry handle peep sight. It quickly became apparent that the cheap red dot sight had to go. Problem is I don’t like the carry handle peep. What peep matches the height of the factory front sight? Price needs to be reasonable.

If you have a flattop with a removable handle then it should be an “F” marked front sight block and so a standard height rear will be fine. I know it’s not the cheapest option but I like the Troy fixed rear or Daniel Defense makes a good fixed as well.

Me, I might go with a Magpul MBUS (composite folding) and buy a Sig Romeo 5 RDS. If I couldn’t swing both, I would probably omit the sight.

The M&P15 I had occasion to inspect and fire... the owner said it came with the MBUS. It had a compact 2.5x20 with 30/30 reticle in a Weaver Tactical mount. It looked like a good idea if you like a low-power optic on an AR.

Mine run the Rock River 1.5.
No elevation for the rear, windage like the old A1.

One had a pinned front sight (DPMS 11.5 w 5.5). Dunno what the FSB is.
Dialed in so no big deal

Other is a floated forend so added DD front as well. Clicked em right in.
Had the Rock River stand alone, costs more.
That was on a prev AR and liked it a lot.

But w the DD I can run an RDS closer to it.

Troy and Daniel defense both make those type of sights , I had a Daniel defense on my mp15 it worked just fine And robust as well

I have no love of the platform either.
Not thrilled with assembling "adult tinker toys".
Seems the more you change em, the more headache they are.
Prefer my more simple one.
Only needed one tweak to be right.

Nothing fancy, just runs flawless and puts em on target.

Latest build, front sight on free float handguard. Doesn't perfectly cowitness w the redot pulled from the other rifle (was perfect cowitness and zero).
Im getting a new bbl tomorrow and will lap the receiver and reinstall and be super picky about it (I wanted no sights, just scope and mount before- as it was to be a coyote gun).

If the new bbl shoots good, proly set up that way again, and move the DD rear and front to a new rig.

From my minor foray into free float and cowitness.............a fixed FSB seems like the way to go. My other AR has that and it was perfect.

Most flip up and fixed rear sights should work AFAIK, fixed rear sights based on the carry handle sight would probably beore economical. You really should get an optic and a folding rear sight. Ever consider a prism optic?
