After decades of carrying revolvers almost exclusively, back trouble (sciatica) and the rise of violent political mob action in cities to which I must travel for my wife's medical appointments, I find myself regularly carrying semiautomatic pistols for the first time since I retired from the Army 25 years ago.

My new primary carry is a black S&W SD9 with Hi-Viz Sights with two 16 round magazines. The trigger pull is resolving, but, since I'm used to long revolver DA triggers, it's nothing I can't handle. So far, I haven't been able to load more than 15 rounds in either magazine, and I'll pick up another magazine or two for it shortly.

My new backup carry is a Ruger EC9s with two 7 round and two 9 round magazines. The trigger pull is truly outstanding, and I like the safety. I carry it with a flush base mag in it and the two 9 round magazines in my pocket.

May the revolver gods forgive me!

The Ruger is an accurate, reliable pistol for not a lot of money. I have no experience with that S&W pistol. I do like the M&P's though.

I too migrated from revolvers after packing them for nearly 50 years.
Went to a smaller pistol with up to 32 rounds available with reloads if needed.

If the squabble ain’t over by the time I’m out of ammo, neither one of us was very dangerous.

pistol > revolver ... for me too
Nowhere would I prefer to only have 5 - 6 rounds rather than 14 - 16 (before potentially having to reload either)

To be absolutely fair, when I was carrying a badge and a gun, two revolvers (duty revolver, S&W Model 13-3, 65-1, 686-6, and backup, S&W Model 37, 642-2, 12-2) made sense because I wouldn't have been purely defensive against crowds bigger than my church's congregation. When my officers made fun of my sixguns, I told them if they could outshoot me at qualification I'd change over to the Glock 22 that they carried. I never had to change.

The reason I've joined the "20th Century" (Really?) is due more to the changed circumstances of the threat.

I have an SD40VE. I purchased an aftermarket trigger from Galloway. While it will never be a match grade trigger, it has noticable improvement over the factory trigger. I believe the trigger model is called
"Boudica"

I think the “20th century” comment was funny but I won’t fault anybody for carrying two revolvers for a total of 12 rounds. It’s a lot of weight and bulk but I won’t be the guy talking trash to him. I prefer 18 rounds all in one gun and then possibly a small BUG somewhere but if I have hand problems later in life (any day now at the rate I’m going!), I’ll carry two revolvers. :)

Personally I only own one revolver. I usually carry autos but I do like the revolver I own a lot & I wouldn't criticize anyone for choosing one for carry. No experience with the SD9VE but I haven't really heard or read anything negative about them other than some folks not liking the trigger. It would seem you bought yourself a crowd pleaser.

My Model 65-1 weighs about 35 ounces. My Model 12-2 weighs a staggering 22.5 ounces loaded. My S&W SD9 weighs 22.7 ounces empty. Add 17 rounds of 9mm and the weight goes right up.

My traveling loads now are 16+1 with 2 spare 16 round magazines and 7+1 with 2 spare 9 round magazines. Total ammo including what is in the pistols is 75 rounds of 9mm.

I remember in a comic book way back (1986) called Savage Tales #8, the main character (a WWI vet) said "....and if you think I'm worried about this newfangled auto [1911], <draws M1917> jamming, I also have a revolver for backup."

I always liked that idea. (But with a smaller revolver for backup!)

IMHO, the best way to learn trigger control with a handgun is still with a DA revolver. My wheelguns don’t get out to the range as often as my semiautos but I plan to address that in the near future!

I have both, including a number of Micro 9mm's. But one thing for sure the Snubbie sure is fun too shoot and so easy and simple to carry. That said, I put 13,000 rds through a Beretta Nano in less than two years, bought two more (gave one to my son) and that with two Kahr's are my favorite carry for 9mm. Needless to say I love DAO. Had a LC9 and LC9s but got rid of the LC9S, trigger was too light for me.

I like two of the same guns. One for heavy range work, one for Carry.

For CC, an autoloader is definitely the way to go, Elm Creek Smith. SIG P365 without a safety for me. I've owned many autoloaders for a long time, and only one revolver until recently. I'm a fan of 40S&W and 10mm, so I obtained an M610. I really enjoy the flexibility of the two calibers, the numerous reloading options, and not having to chase down my brass over into the next county. I enjoy it so much, I've obtained larger and larger bore revolvers and am having a literal and figurative blast with them! We need both, Elm Creek Smith; your sins are forgiven.
