Here are a couple good ones that seem to be related and needing a vote....
John Wayne in “The Searchers “ and Tommy Lee Jones and Cate Blanchett in “The Missing “. Both great flicks and believe it or not , in all these years I only just saw “Hondo “, also a good one.

I am delighted that we have so many fans of Western movies here, and thanks to the moderators for allowing the discussion. Many here have listed good movies, not necessarily the single best one ( in their opinion). So I claim the same privilege, to add a good one not yet mentioned, even though it is not #1:

Ulzana’s Raid, with Burt Lancaster, 1972. Brutal, bleak, very different from Roy Rogers and Gene Autry. A tutorial in indian fighting.

I don’t mean to hijack the thread so tell me if this inappropriate but how about your favorite B&W western. It’s a little closer to the C&B era.
Or...
Your favorite remake like “true grit” or “the magnificent seven” and which one, original or remake ? Kinda like original or replica.

Hey Miguel Loco, I used to live in the Benson\ St David area, planning on getting back there permanently. Always liked Tombstone and surrounding areas such as Middle March and Charleston. Favorite westerns , Josey Wales, both versions of True Grit, Unforgiven, Quigley, most anything with Clint.

Black and white westerns: 1939 Stagecoach with the Duke; it made him a star. 1948 Red River, again the Duke. The best remake: True Grit. Both the original and the remake are always worth watching.

Sleeper: Ride the High Country, another Peckinpah masterpiece.

Oooohhh Ride the High Country.. My 1st exposure to the Remington Model 8... I remember asking my Parents ..Wait if the movie is taking place before WW I, why was the Army not using those semi autos in the War...

Maybe One of the Best attempts to tell the Little Big Horn battle done in Movie or TV.. Son of the Morning Star..

Yeah, not perfect, The flow on the battle field could be more detailed, But that may be beyond a theatrical movies ability.. but pretty gosh darn good..

Has anyone mentioned the movie "The Stalking Moon".

Gregory Peck plays a tremendous part in this movie,,,
Just retired as an Army scout he takes in a woman captured years ago by Apaches (?),,,
Not knowing that her young boy is the son of the most bad arsed Apache warrior ever born.

Great action but even better acting.

Aarond

P.S. I really enjoy these threads,,,
I usually get to Netflix several movies I either forgot or never saw.

Oh man the shootist.. I can not watch the beginning intro with out choking up, knowing that is the Dukes last movie and you see those old movie clips of John Wayne as J.B Brooks as a real aging and dying Cowboy... :(

A big thanks to the moderators for letting this thread play out. I’m actually making a list of some of the movies I somehow/apparently missed over the years that members are mentioning as worthwhile.

The Missouri Breaks (1976) Brando Vs. Nicholson. What’s not to like? Free watch on U Tube.

Critique it. Let us know what you think.
