Would like some input on what group does the best job . Have heard for years NRA has slipped in their work . I have been a member for years but have heard some not so great stuff about them . What is your thoughts and what other orginations would be good to support . Not wanting to open a can of worms just would like facts .

We do not want to start another NRA flame war. Please confine your responses to suggesting organizations and not another run through on NRA pros and cons.

I agree that state organizations are very userful.

Soonerfan, the others have suggested the Second Amendment Foundation (saf.org) and I agree. It is also closely associated with the Citizen's Committee of the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (ccrkba.org) and both are based in Washington state.
There is also the Gun Owners of America (gunowners.org) but they may be a little like the NRA in their frequent and repeated requests for money.
And definitely check out any state level organizations in your state. They will know and work with your state's legislators more closely than any national group.

.

I get they need $$$ to carry out legal and legislative actions, I am mainly concerned that my contribution goes almost exclusively for that purpose.

But you are certainly correct, some of these groups are like kids asking for their allowance every Friday afternoon!

Every organization has it's pros and cons. I'm in Kansas and like the Kansas State Rifle Assn., BUT, we recently had a primary election to select a senatorial candidate. I was dismayed that the KSRA supported Roger Marshall instead of Kris Kobach who is an unshakably strong 2A supporter. So....do I conclude that they are no longer a good organization? The point is for me is that there is no such thing as the "best" organization. It depends on the issues you are concerned about.

Need to to do some deep checking into who has done what , good by fighting for us and the not so good by giving in or how they use the membership dues . That is what would like to hear about to give me a direction to head to maybe . Maybe on what things a group has done you felt was good or maybe not so good . Again lets try and keep responces in check . Thanks for the help folks . Just been feeling I need to give some support some were else to in our fight with our 2nd amendment rights ..

See if there's a state level organization where you live. Some of these can be very productive and are often poorly supported.

SAF has done some very good work for us. They work primarily in the courts, not on the legislative side of things. They are well worth supporting.

"Best" is a complicated metric.

It's complicated because it's vague. Metrics (goals, outcomes, etc.) need to be both measurable and attainable. "Best" is not measurable, which makes it unattainable.

Really, all of them are good--you just need to select the one that best fits you.

I would suggest that you select which is the most effective. Of course, one would have to define what effective looks like, and that may vary in different areas. I think NRA has been very effective in getting pro 2A candidates into office, and that has measurable outcomes. For example, Trump's election has spawned a lot of conservative appointments to the Federal bench, but how many of those have positively impacted 2A cases?) I think SAF has been more effective in the courts with litigating anti 2A laws; what has been the positive impact to 2A issues there? There is room for each individual to set his or her own metric for success here.

And, there's an excellent argument for not "putting all your eggs in one basket." Or, to join as many as you can.

I think this is the most prudent. I'm a member of NRA (although I wouldn't be if I weren't shooting in competition), GOA, SAF, and VCDL. (Even though I am not, nor have I ever been, a resident of Virginia, which brings up a whole other subset of this discussion, which is the idea of joining or contributing to state pro 2A groups even when you don't live there. This fight is quickly becoming a "Join Or Die" moment.)

Good points, Mac

If the NRA ever gets wiped out the crosshairs will be on the next group... then the next group...

Yes ^^ this.
Let the person who thinks they will end with the crucifixion of the NRA be known as they are, ignorant. Perhaps, in the modern age of available information and wisdom to help foster removal from ignorance, stupid.

Memberships , here...
NRA
SAF
GOA
FPC

STOP THE KEYBOARD WARRIOR BS smellysmelly PooPoo, AND SEND ONE OF THESE ANY AMOUNT OF CA$H.

That should be EVERYONE. Others who can afford more than the lowly $5 donation, send to SEVERAL organizations.

No 'skin in the game,' = Keyboard Commando-ism IMHO...

In the name of diversity, we should also mention Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership, the Pink Pistols, the Liberal Gun Club, the National African American Gun Association, and others. We need to expand the demographics of gun ownership. (I'm not including radicals such as the John Brown Gun Club.)

I too am looking for an alternate organization to support. I was quite dispirited when sweeping gun control measures were stacking up and eventually passed here in VT. The organization I had been supporting for 10+ years was completely silent on the issue. Not one peep from them about it. Nothing whatsoever. That's a failure I cant forgive.

I'm an SAF Life member, a member of the VCDL, and a Blazing Sword volunteer instructor.

I have mentioned my support of SAF. While not an actual member of VCDL I have sent them $$ (I practice what I preach).

Is Blazing Sword an alternative lifestyle (generically referencing, orientation) pro-2A organization?

Thnx!
