Hello All,

I recently acquired a 9mm Rugged Obsidian that I plan on using for double duty on a rimfire until I get a specific can for that task. It came so fast that I haven't purchased a host yet, having gotten rid if all of my threaded .22LR pistols a while back.

Can anyone speak to using it on a Ruger MKIV 22/45 Lite vs a 22/45 Tactical? I am a little leery of the skinny barrel with a shroud to index on, or does that little shoulder take care of that?. The other pistol I am looking closely at is a Browning Buckmark, but that would make for a long pistol suppressed.

I looked at the Beretta 92, Walther PPQ, and S&W MP .22LR and they all seem to be of Umarex/Zamak or similar make which was a turn off.

I figure this can would dwarf anything like an SR22 or such.

I can flesh out details if you need them.

Thanks!

I have a Ruger MkIII 22/45 Lite and a MkIV 22/45 Tactical.......but have only used a Ruger Silent SR and AAC Pilot 2 on them. Zero issues.

I'll bet hanging an Obsidian 9 off the end of a 22/45 Lite will feel odd. Even in short configuration thats almost nine ounces.

I have a home made k baffel 9mm silencer that I tested on a 22/45 lite and it worked ok.
It was too big and too heavy for my liking compared to my gemtech GM22 or home made cone baffel 22LR silencer. I just wasn't a fan of hanging a 1.25 wide can that was 7 inches long and weighed 7 ounces on the end of that gun after being spoiled by the GM22. The GM22 is just about perfect for the 22/45 lite, I liked it on there so much it was almost seized on to the gun.
Now I use the home made cone baffel on the 22/45 since it's obviously quieter then the gemtech, 10% the price of the gemtech and 10% the wait time.
I guess it boils down to do you want 1 silencer or do you want the best silencer for each caliber?

I have a Dead Air Mask on a Mk IV 22/45 Lite and it runs well. It doesn't like subsonics, but that's not a barrel problem, I don't think. Not enough oomph to cycle it. I can't compare it to a Tactical, though.

Walther PPQ's are a great host for 22 suppressors. Avoid the P22's, they are junk, jmho. The PPQ's are an aluminum alloy slide, from what I've heard on the forums from those who've asked Walther.

I have the 4.5 in barrel 22/45 and it renders all but the hottest 22lr ammo subsonic.
CCI min mags are subsonic.
CCI stingers are definitely super sonic.

Just picked up my AAC Aviator 2 on Friday, 6.5 month wait. It is stellar on my 22/45 lite, might I say impressive! During the wait time I mounted my huge AAC 7.62SD on the small pistol. It was silly quiet but way too heavy for practical purposes. I know, not the same suppressors but similar enough to be relevant.

Between buckmark and ruger, I'd get whatever you think is the easiest to clean. 22 is nasty. It fouls up my mkii with paclite upper to where it no longer functions in a couple hundred rounds. Which reminds me, back when I had a buckmark, it seemed less tolerant of being dirty.

Let me also add (as I have in several other threads) that Volquartsen sells Mk IV 'uppers' on clearance pretty frequently. You could pick up whatever MK IV you wanted and put something like this on it.

Follow up post for those who like data points (TLDR: yes, most of you were correct):

Ended up with a MkIV 22/45 Tactical with miles of rails. Even in its short configuration the Obsidian is way too big and heavy, but at least I can get a bit of a decent sight picture. Can't do that with it's "long version".

Was supposed to take it out today but the trip fell through. So function check only so far, with 5 rounds in the backyard. They were 100% and I was ok with the sound, as was the neighbor's dog, but its not ideal... I've certainly shot friend's cans that were quieter/sounded better.

I should've bitten the bullet and added a rimfire specific can on my initial shopping spree. Now to find a TB 22 Take Down.

so let me throw and idea at you. build your own form 1 22 can super cheap with a china fuel filter. they cost like 30 bucks +engraving and tax stamp. So for maybe $250 bucks and a month wait you can have a 22 suppressor that will work as well as the obsidian. this guy tested one and it was pretty interesting.

Is there a .22 alloy fuel filter baffle stack that will fit inside the suppressor the OP has?
I bought a TACTICAL SOLUTIONS light weight barrel for my Buckmark. They come is different lengths. and sight options.
I'm waiting for my stamp.

The Ruger Mk4 will make a fine host. I've used my 9oz Optimus Micro on a handgun and it really feels HEAVY. I didn't like my Taurus TX22/SiCo Spectre enough to buy a SiCo Warlock.

The monocore ones are, well.....monocores. Might do OK on a .22 rifle, but otherwise suck.

The ones with cups, however, can be made to work pretty well. I grabbed a bunch of them back when they were on eBay for $9 to experiment with, since F2 as a mfr is no tax, therefore I wasn't really out anything but the cost of a few fast food meals. I even assigned them the model initialsm "CCCE" for cheap chinese can experiment. I did a fairly in depth write up here:
