Bucket list 1911

If sticking to semi custom production guns, I would've said Wilson in the past. However, I handled a Nighthawk Custom last year and the trigger was noticeably nicer than the Les Baer, Ed Brown, and Wilson's I compared it to. It's possible it was just a very fine example, as it was a very small sample size, but it was enough to make me lust after a Nighthawk, perhaps as a retirement gift to myself. I may combine it with a Chris Reeves or a Hinderer knife also.

If going full custom, I won't comment. I don't know enough to.

My best production 1911 is my Dan Wesson CBOB.

Definitely agree on DW being the best production 1911 around. I had an entry leve 1911 and decided to step it up. Tried on Colt, SA's nicer stuff, Kimber, yada yada yada. Then I laid hands on a Dan Wesson and it honestly blew the other guns away in fit and finish and the wonderful (for production) trigger.

Past that though I'm no help, and really, my experience is limited to what I own, since all my shooting friends moved away.

Nice DW man.

I know the OP already owns a DW or two. We spoke about them some months back.

In the late 1800's Frank Gelett Burgess was an American artist, art critic, poet, author and humorist who once said...."I don't know much about art but I know what I like"

I don't profess to be an expert concerning 1911's, many more knowledgeable members here than I......but I know what I like.....Wilson Combat Classic Super Grade stood out among the many.

Technically not a 1911 because it's a roller delayed blowback but if women don't swoon at the mere mention...
Nope not interested, something unamerican about it and if it runs like the Volkswagon I had it will cost an arm and a leg to keep it running.:neener:
Wilson Combat Classic Super Grade appeals to me how much dare I ask?
Just looked it up $5100, once again my good taste exceeds my beer budget bank account.:(

If you were talking money as no object but not a full custom, I'd be interested in a clean 1911 like this one: https://www.edbrown.com/executive-elite/ or https://www.nighthawkcustom.com/pistols/1911s-government/nhc-classic. I cannot stand front cocking serrations or crazy slide cuts.

However, this is idle speculation on my part. I've handled a few Browns and Baers and a Guncrafter, but I have never fired one, and the opportunity cost of buying a $5k handgun is too high for me to justify at present.

Now, if you're talking a higher-end production 1911, it's hard to go wrong with a DW.

Somewhere, probably still in SEA is a Remington Rand 1911A1. I'd like to have that one back. I gave it to a guy coming in as I left, the same as was done to me.

ACW in .45 is on my list but I just can't bring myself to spend the money...

I’m not even touching the high end 1911 side of this, but I will touch on the 10mm side of it. 10mm is a very potent round compared to the low pressure 45acp the 1911 was designed around. If you go 10mm then do yourself a huge favor and check to see if the maker uses a barrel that fully supports the cartridge. Colt doesn’t and they don’t care that it’s a dangerous situation with a high pressure round that’s not fully supported. I got burned by that, and I would hope that others will at least ask the question before spending money.

Have all the 1911's I've ever wanted but never a super high end one.
Thinking an Ed Brown .45ACP 5" adjustable sight target model might be the ticket but then there's Wilson combat, nighthawk, Les Baer not to mention 10mm, 38super, the list goes on.
What's your choice,

I don't own a Brown as they refuse to make contoured grip frames for smaller hands. I DO own at least one of each other guns named plus an ACW, and love them all.

A LB PII (Tark, great checkering - thank you), WC CQB and a Colt Series 70. I cut my teeth carrying a Colt 1911 during Army service at the end of the Vietnam Era. A 1911 is the quintessential semi-auto to me - I have to own at least one but they don’t get shot much anymore - I enjoyed my military service and I miss it sometimes so nostalgia is the driver I guess.

Now, if you're talking a higher-end production 1911, it's hard to go wrong with a DW.
I agree whole heartedly, my nightstand gun is a bobtail Valor in .45ACP and my CCW is a Guardian in 38 Super, when weather permits.
Had feeding problems with the Valor in the beginning and had to send it back to the mother ship but it is now 100% reliable.
On the other hand my Guardian and PM-38 have both functioned perfectly since day one.

All I can say is that that GI No Name is one of the best-looking 1911s I have seen, even though it's in the wrong caliber.

Can't understand why anyone would get a 1911 in punybellum when they can get the all American 38 Super. JMB must be rolling in his grave.:p

I've considered a Defender, had a really nice stainless officer model that I sold to get a boat.
What exactly is the diff. between the Defender an the Officer model?

Please...please....please look at Alchemy. I have Wilsons. I have Dan Wesson. I have Colt Customs. I’ve had Les Baers. All excellent guns with zero complaints. Alchemy eclipses them all at a great price point.

You can’t go wrong with your choice, but consider putting ACW in the mix.

I worked alongside Rob at Les's shop before he left. He is one of the finest craftsman I have ever known.
