Given the cost of centerfire ammo, I decided to pick up a .22 autoloader. After scouring youtube for info. I decided on the relatively new Taurus TX .22. Holds 15+1 in the magazine. I paid around $275 for the gun. Same size as a Glock 19. Bought 300 rounds of CCI Mini Mags. After a proper lube job, it ran like a raped ape. No regrets at all. A lot of fun for next to nothing. 117638310_10218352950598645_1787107696959848149_n.jpg

I've enjoyed mine a great deal. It prefers HV ammo but that's pretty much all I buy. One correction to your review is that it hold 16 plus 1 rounds. I usually load 15 though.

I doubled my "fun meter" reading by putting a laser on the rail. That nice trigger really causes me to burn through ammo fast. Enjoy your new Taurus.

Do you own a Glock 44?
Fair question. The answer is no. I checked two of them out at different stores and didn't care for the feel of them, I didn't like the grip or sights at all. I had a chance to shoot my Friend's G44 and had trouble with the first round from the magazine. He showed me how to tap the loaded magazine first and it then loaded fine but I wasn't impressed. It shot alright but the trigger was creepy. The price was not a factor, I just bought a S&W Compact that cost as much as a G44. I just like the TX22 much better. IMG_3715 (1).JPG A .22 Pistols.jpg

When they first came out with the TX22 they had a lot of problems with the barrel having chatter marks towards the end of the barrel. Didn't seem to hurt shooting them but some of them leaded up pretty bad. My friend had one and I shot it several times it shot ok at least at 25 feet. Trigger took a little getting used to but after that could shoot accurately. Magazines seem cheap compared to most other mags. The biggest thing that would keep me from buying a Taurus is the Customer Service. My friend returned his to get the barrel fixed and it took over two months to get it back and they said they didn't fix it because they did not have any spare barrels.

Now I am thinking about the Beretta M9/22. Exact copy of the 9mm, only built by Umarex of Germany. They run about $350. View attachment 940040
That does look nice. Be interesting to hear from owners how they work? For anyone who owns / carries something like an M9 they AFAIK still make a conversion kit to have them shoot .22 but last I looked they cost about as much as this pistol does for just the kit and one mag. So if these work well it would be nice to just have an entire pistol for about the cost of just the conversion kt.

I have a TX22 and a G44. I bought the Taurus several months ago and was pleasantly surprised how well it shoots.

I don't have many rounds through the 44 yet as I got it last weeked, but the trigger is nowhere near as good. I put a 3.5# Ghost connector and it definitely helped. Accuracy is very good, just had to dial the sights in a bit unlike the Taurus.

A word of caution: I've now seen reports of both a TX22 and 44 with cracked slides. The problem (I think) with the TX is the OEM recoil spring has a sharp edge that digs into the alloy slide which has causes some scratching, it's happened to mine.

I bought the Lakeline LLC guide rod/spring assembly which is supposed to fit better and they actually round off the spring to prevent the scratching.

Taurus actually sells this part on their own website. https://www.shoptaurus.com/tx22-parts/lakeline-tx22-stainless-recoil-assembly-tx-rsa-022

This is one of the reasons (among many others) Taurus absolutely SUCKS as a firearm company. If they cared even a little bit about their customers they would have redesigned their recoil assembly. The front of the slide is also poorly designed it's paper thin where the recoil assembly resides, breath on it to hard and they crack or break.

Yea, I just saw a youtube video talking about that very issue. Took 3 barrels to fix this guy's problem:

Got 3 TX22's have only a few hundred rds through one of them. One just came and the 3rd is in the mail. I'll probably replace the recoil assembly with all of them ASAP as it sounds like a great preventative measure. Bought them just for training (for the two of us) and having an extra seemed prudent.

So far zero problems.

Supposedly the Glock 44 was tested rigorously as well, yet some claim it won't run on bulk ammo, etc.

I think those were earlier production models that had that issue. Mine was made well after that video was published and I haven't had any signs of fouling.

We'll see what happens with my 44 and TX. I'm just going to keep shooting them. I remember when the SR22 first came out and people's guns were flying apart as the takedown lever in the frame would crack.

Yes, it does seem to have been from earlier Taurus 22s. But, you may still come across new old-stock somewhere...

I found these other videos on the matter too... What sucks is that even replacement barrels have issues....:

all the issues these new comer .22lr pistols are having makes me think three things.

1.) rushed to fast, to grab market share

or

2.) cheaply built to maximize profits/keep cost lower

or

3.) poorly engineered and designed

maybe all three, don't know only speculating. do know failures rates are higher than I think they should be.

I have a taurus tx22. it has the bad barrel not as bad as some as I shoot copper coated through it, but it does require some cleaning to remove some lead stripped off. didnt relaize it at first but think cause I only shoot copper coated ammo. I guess i should ask for a replacement barrel, but I wonder if it will be worse off than the poorly machined one i have currently?

hope the ops is a good one and he has no issues with his.

Just lucky, I guess. Ser# in the 6000 range the barrel is fine. Second one in the 43000 range, barrel is fine. Both have fired thousands of rounds. No complaints.

My TX22 is accurate, reliable, and fun. Great little pistol for the money. May buy one for the wife.

Any experience with the Ruger SR22? I'm considering one.

I have owned both, still own the Ruger SR22. Comparing the two is like comparing a Ferrari to a Yugo. There is no comparison. The Ruger is a well designed very well built firearm. It's runs flawlessly no matter what 22 ammo you feed it. It's extremely accurate, has a excellent trigger and is backed by one of the best customer service firearm company's. You should check out this High Road thread;
https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...s-a-tale-of-two-firearm-manufacturers.873833/

Take a very close look at the front of the slide on the TX22, it's paper thin, then add a poorly designed recoil assembly that acts like a grinder and eventually cracks or breaks the slide, compare that to the one inch thick Ruger slide. I would love to see a photo of a Taurus TX22 that has been fired 10,000 times. You see all these wonderful reviews on youtube about the Taurus. Their giving a good review on a firearm that been fired less than 1000 times, most of the time way less. If you want a cheap piece of crap from the worst firearm company out there then buy the Taurus. If you want a 22 that will give you a lifetime of service from one of , if not, the best customer service firearm company buy the Ruger. Do some research, check the Taurus forum , TaurusArmed.net. Check the Rimfire central forum. Reread post #13, is this a company you want to buy a gun from? I'll be bashed by the Taurus fanboys and that's ok. I will never recommend a Taurus, a company that doesn't give a flying crap about the people that buy their product, to a fellow gunowner.

All I know is that I too own both the Taurus and the Ruger and I like and enjoy both. The one that goes to the range most often though is the Taurus. I have no complaints.
