Removed the grips to wipe off some lube that got under them. Realized the trigger had turned to mush. Took the whole thing apart and the FINALLY found the issue...

Mainspring is busted. I don't wanna deal with sending it in. Will the just send me the part? Anyone ever RMA them?

Where is it broken? I don't see the break in the picture. Maybe I'm not understanding what I'm looking at. Did the metal actually break or just become disassembled?

Alrighty. I was expecting to see it in two separate pieces. I think I can see the lighter colored crack there.

I don't know what Colt will do. A quick search reveals that Numrich has the part, and also that Wolff has aftermarket springs which may well be an improvement over stock.

Care to link? I can only find the parts for the old model Cobra.

I can only wonder if the OEM spring is a MIM part.
In either case if Wolf is making them I would go that route.
Also interested in knowing what Colt has to say as I have just bought one.

I only see replacement springs for the original Cobra. I believe it's forged though. I think it was just bad luck and honestly even abuse on my part. It's the one part, besides a few other small springs that seems to not be mim.

Welp they're only willing to do a full RMA for this issue.

About what I expected.
Liability averse, they assume you are not capable of putting a spring back where you found the broken one.

I have not heard of springy MIM.
Colt made some GM extractors out of it, they did not last and Colt went back to cast or milled.

It blows my mind on the liability thing. If you don't know how to assemble the entire grip frame of your semi auto, you're unfamiliar with your firearm.

If you even dare pop the side plate off your revolver...well that's "custom gun smithing" or "self servicing".

If you send it they will most likely give the gun an full once over and fix any and all issues. They did that for me on the two warranty visits I had

At least that part will be worth looking forward to. I just dread the extra markings they'll add to show previous RMA.

Yeah I just don't like the idea of it for some pointless reason. Just prefer to keep it looking as original as possible. I know that's weird.

It already has one mark there though that I've seen on some RMA Pythons, but I bought it brand new. Colt does a lot that I don't understand lol.

Update: They're willing to send the lone part if I cancel the remainder of my warranty.
