I’ve been lurking on this site since I started reloading about 18 months ago, first post. I’ve learned a lot, since many of you reload more in a year than I will in my lifetime, mostly to put me at ease when I think I’ve done something catastrophic...thank you very much for all the great info.

Now for the drawn out question...sorry for it being so long. My father was on a road trip to Montana and I asked him to check in at some places along the way for primers since...well you know.

I load 357 mag and 9mm atm, so I asked for 5k total of CCI SP, SPM to last me for a couple years in case things don’t improve, and if those weren’t had, just get 2k CCI SR as a substitute to keep my 357 mag loads going, other brands OK, with Federal being bottom priority. The only thing I’ve loaded is CCI’s since when I was getting into reloading I heard about Federals being the softest cup and got concerned I’d accidentally set off a round.

Well, he came back with 5k Federal match SP, 3K Federal match SPM, and 3k CCI SRM (found in a Native American Reservation somewhere near Billings, Montana if any of you are up that way).

Way more primers than I need, I wouldn’t mind if they were CCI since I’d be good for my reloading needs for at least 3 years. I think I’ve solved the problem with the SRM, I’ve been wanting to get a 300 Blackout for a long time, and I see Hogdon load data calls for them, so this is just the excuse I need to get the 300 blk ;)

For the Federals though, I ended up reading a lot about the “softest cup” after being stuck with them and I calmed my nerves on reloading them and using them for my 9mm and 357 revolvers, but now I have concerns of sticking them in my tubular magazine Henry 357 lever action. I know not to use pointed or rounded bullets, so I stick with JHP, MBC RNFP and TC. Would you think the Federals pose any risk in the Henry? I want to be able to use every 357 I load to be interchangeable with revolver and rifle. Maybe I trade them with someone who has CCI’s? I don’t really know any reloaders in my area Ventura County, CA although there has to be a few because primers are nowhere to be had.

I’ve run at least 125,ooo Federal primer through my lever guns without issue.

I use Federal primers SPP, both match and non-Match, almost exclusively and haven't encountered any issues with them.

If you are really interested in trading, the Match SP, for CCI, I'll be driving through the area in a couple of weeks

Thank you all, I’ll load them up and see what happens. They might end up to my liking. I had a few FTF with the CCI’s in my revolver but I think it must have been poor priming as it seemed to only happen in one batch with some light trailboss plinking loads.
