Ok, I suspect that this is a question that may have been posted before my time.
But the Vanguard Delux or Model 70 Featherweight.
Caliber wise I'm leaning towards .30-06, but like the .270 too.
Thanks in advance.

The last rifle I’d part with is my 1953 vintage model 70 standard chambered in 270 Winchester. My Stainless Classic 300 Win Mag is a close second. Vanguards are fine rifles but I like Winchester control feed first and my old style Sakos next.

Winchester. Personally I would prefer the M70 Sporter over the FW, but that is just me. BTW, I have owned a Vanguard Sporter and 3 Vanguard S2's in composite stocks.
Thank you , may I ask why on the sporter? I'm reading up on it now at the Winchester site.

The model 70 Ftw is an all around higher quality rifle in my book.

I own Vanguard MK2's with synthetic stocks and a Win 70 Ftw. While I really like my Vanguards, If I had my choice I'd go with the Winchester with little to no hesitation.

The Vanguard will be a little heavier but both accurate rifles .

New or used? Why not a Mark V? Personally, I would go first for a US-made CRF Model 70. The pre-WWII are the best, then later pre-64's, then the '92 to '06 rifles, but individual specimens vary. I also like the California-made Mark V's. I would rather have a good Mark V from South Gate or Paso Robles than a lousy example of a Model 70.

I would definitely say the M70 Winchester 1) because I own one and and it is a superb rifle 2) because most everyone else is saying Winchester (I say whatever the rioters want to hear).

Lol, thank you.

I'd go with the Vanguard, as I prefer the safety significantly, and general features overall.
I WANT a Winchester, but I think it's mostly just to have one, so I'd probably go with one of the super grades.
Thank you, forgive me but you said "the safety first..."
Would you elaborate please?

Hi, I'm think of a new rifle and would not want to spend the money for the weatherby ammo. The Mark V's are bit high priced for me too.

Featherweight. I own several in different calibers and couldn't be happier with them. All have been accurate out of the box and just fit me like a glove. I have some that were made in New Haven, CT, Columbia, SC, and even one rifle made in Portugal...which doesn't give up anything to the others. All of them are exceptional in my opinion.

I would go with the Weatherby Vanguard over the Winchester 70.
I have owned a Winchester model 70 classic. I couldn't find a load that would shoot under 1 1/2" at 100 yards. Weatherby guarantees sub-moa accuracy from the Howa produced Vanguard. And like @LoonWulf I like the safety better also.
