The $158 Rifles?

They shoot quite well. Here's mine at 25 yards, zeroing target:

That's with 62 grain Silver Bear. I pulled the bottom one down. That is a 3/4" red dot they are on. It shot the same at 50, just a bit higher. I plan on putting mine in a Boyd's stock and putting some better glass on it.
I guess a cheap gun deserves cheap ammo ;)

I'd like to see what it would do with a 53 Vmax or a 69 SMK.

In this current time you got to shoot what you got. All my stock of 223 ammo was geared for ARs. Mostly Xm193, 100 rd bulk packs, and steel case. And about 6k or 7k 55 gr fmj bullets and a few ballistic tip and hp bullets for reloading. I do have some factory hp but they are loaded in mags and have strict replace what you shoot policy.

When this ammo shortage (hopefully) ends I want to try some high end stuff in mine. Till then I'm dusting off the reloading press.

I'm liking the Bushnell scope it came with. Seems to get the job done. And there is probably nothing wrong with the stock. I am just in the tinkering mode and getting urges. Happens every time I get something new. Just need to resist and shoot it some more.

My first Axis in .223 did much better with my handloads: .14 CTC at 25 yds. It's hard to see in this pic, but there is a ragged hole that is a 3 shot group from 25 yards that is .14" center to center. It's one square up from the bottom of the silhouette. Right above the 3 shot group just behind the 1911. I had to use a micrometer to measure it. I like that kind of accuracy. Shot with my pet load of 25.8 gr. BL-C(2) and 55 gr. FMJ.

I went to Academy to look around and might have inadvertently upgraded the scope.

Nikon 4-12x40 P Tactical BDC 600. $93.48 and came out to $101.19 after tax. Wasn't planning on buying a scope just noticed it was on sale from the regular price of $249 and decided to jump on it. They had other Nikon scopes marked down but they where sold out except for ones for crossbow, rimfire, and muzzleloader.

Still trying to figure out what to do. I might mount the Nikon on my 20" AR or Mini14. Or mount the Nikon on the Axis and mount the Bushnell 4-12 scope it came with on the AR or Mini14. Or the Bushnell on the Axis in 3006 and mount its Weaver 3-9 scope on my Remington 600. The poor rem 600 has been forced to wear a 4x32 scope that came with a Crossman air rifle for over a decade. Should be ashamed of myself.

When I thought this deal couldn’t get any better I get an email from Savage arm saying that the rebate was approved, That’s a $50 discount on a $79 rifle bringing the total price to $29 for a Savage axis two with a heavy barrel, camo stock and a scope.

Yup, mine was approved, too. :D

Can you even buy ammo for it at Walmart?

Sadly, no. Glad I reload.

I just ordered a new stock for my "bargain" Rem 700ADL, .223 sporter. It's an H-S Precision Pro-Series synthetic from Nachez Shooters Supplies for a hundred-twenty bucks off their regular price. It's still not cheap, but I have a similar Sendero stock on my Rem .270, 700 BDL. I'm used to it and it's comfortable for me.

The factory ADL stock has been "Picherized" and the rifle is very accurate, but I like a wider forend.

Just added up what I've spent on the "bargain" ADL after getting a great deal and its not as much of a bargain anymore: Leupold 3-9X scope and $350 for the new stock makes it one of my more expensive hunting rifles. The Sendero take-off stock on my Rem .270 only cost $50 when I found it in a gun store's "old stock barrel". What the heck...when you've "gotta have" something that's ON-SALE, get it!
I thought about getting another stock for my 700 ADL 243, but it shoots so good that I hate to mess it. I am a big believer in, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I got the exact same deal on an Axis II heavy barrel ($79) and my $50 rebate has been appproved as well. I've already put a few rounds throught it and it shoots quite well.

Also picked up a wood stock Axis .308 for $184 and have a $50 rebate approved on that one as well. The wood stock rifle went to a coworker that really wanted it, I'm keeping the heavy barrel Axis and the Remington 700 ADL in .223, may turn the Remington into a project haven't decided yet.

The ADL shoots just as well as the old stock that I'd accurized, but I like the feel of the new one. There's accuracy no loss here, but the feel is much better, more comfortable to shoot. The rifle is still shooting 1/2" or better groups at 100 yards. The limiting factor is the barrel and my lack of load testing, especially small batches of various seating depth, powder, etc.

The rifle isn't for competition and not my favorite in that cartridge...just a third .223 that is easy to carry and not worry about it as much as the others. Maybe the best thing about it is that it helps take wear and tear from my nicer, stainless 700 Varmint, chambered for the same cartridge. Its a great truck "beater" gun that fits me very well.

This week I tested two batches of ammo and found that one didn't shoot well, yet all aspects were the same, except the bullets seated, so the bullets were pulled and thrown away and I seated the same kind of bullets used in the other half of the batch and they shot well. I threw the pulled bullets away, along with the few that were left in the box. Ya gotta know when to throw!

Mine doesn't shoot any better, but it feels and looks better, so well worth doing. I really don't like the factory ADL stock and don't have to use any now. It would be nice if Remington would widen the forend a bit on them, but I have fairly large hands, so maybe others like them.

My .243 700 ADL is shooting MOA with cheap Herters ammo, I have not shot the 7mm RM 700 ADL I got. I do not like the non-free floated stock either but I do prefer the slim forend, that part I do like. Long term I will probably try to find a replacement stock for both of them and maybe convert to a bottom plate magazine, not sure.

@Picher - What kind of bullets did you throw away?

I think the polymer ADL stock was made to reduce weight and cost. In your case, you are looking for a comfortable stock to give you good accuracy but there are many who look at the price on the bottom line compared to a Savage or Mossberg, as well as the weight.

Threw away about 20, 55 grain Sierra Blitzking bullets. They may have shot better if I'd used different seating depth or powders, but it wasn't worth the effort to me. I have others that shoot well and never had a problem with Sierra bullets before. It may have been the rifle's fault, since none of the bullets were keyholing, and I only recently noticed the problem with the loads.

My local wal mart hasn’t ever sold guns and doesn’t even have ammo anymore... just pocketknives in the sliding glass cabinet.

With the anti’s zealotry reaching a fever pitch don’t be surprised if this situation comes to a location near you... :(

Stay safe.

When I free floated and glass bedded my BDLs the accuracy really improved. The 700 varmint rifle I had in 223 I left in the factory setup it was sub moa out of the box.

Can't get into details, but I have a coworker whose wife is pretty high up in a local store, as in not far from getting her own store. There has been scuttlebutt about the getting out of guns and ammo entirely (not just the local store, if you know what I mean). Nothing official though.

That rumor has been going around for a couple years now. Wouldn't doubt it, gas stations, hardware stores, Target, Kmart, who am I missing? Use to all sell guns. Walmart doesn't do it well so it's just a hassle. Unless they're making $$$, it's not a tough decision.

Supposedly they make a good amount of money, its just purely a long term PR thing. At least as he tells it.
