Altor single shot 9mm

In the United States a pistol reciever has to be made out of at least two point something ounces of metal.
It looks like the grip is solid plastic and the "bolt" for lack of a better term is a big solid stainless rod.

The originals were under $3.00 each, WITH AMMO!
I'll be damned if I'll put $500 into a re-issue. No thanks.

On the other hand, I _CAN_ rework a 45ACP Altor into the same concept.....

Hey I got one.
The altor rifling is barely there like that found on the new F troop approved liberator.

I'm going to take it out, shoot it some. Make sure factory 9mm ammo makes a round hole in a barn door from like 25 to 30 yards. Which is way beyond the furthest it would ever be used defensively or offensively.
Then load up some "380acp power level" 9x19 loads that will meet 3 criteria.
Loaded with 90gr "380 bullet".
Load with the fastest burning powder I have which is some prehistoric winchester super lite.
Hot enough that it will cycle a semi auto 9mm.
If 0.355" bullets go sideways I'll try 0.357'' 110gr hollow point / soft point Remington bullets.

Normally when I load 90gr in 9mm they're hot, like plus pee hot and loaded with slower burning 9mm powders like AA7 and they make a BA muzzel flash out of a 5 inch gun.

I had to laugh thinking what would the people who made that original think if they were around today to see people paying that kind of cash for these now :eek:
just think, GM could take one of their many idle stamp houses, and make reproductions for the $12.00 or so it would cost to make, and sell them with original markings for 1/5th the price.

LOL, yep! I also think of it when I tell others if I ever hit the lotto I would by an M3 and move to where I could use it. Of all the FA stuff I ever got to try these were my favorite. They now run what a nice new car does so GM guys would be quite amused at that too :D

I know one person who bought one the day they became available.

He hand loads snake-shot into 9mm shells,,,
At least he did until he found some in 9mm made by CCI

It's his fishing tackle-box gun for water snakes,,,
It replaced an old revolver in .38 special.

Aarond

.

As for as CCW, it's bigger than my 32S&W Lemon Squeezer. I get a safety and 5 shots.

Interesting is that it should fire 9x18s as well as 9mm Shorts without much of a problem. Hmm.

Altor head spaces off the bolt.
The 9x18 and 9x19 heads are really close and they use the same shell holder.
Makarov ammo is loaded kind of lIke 380.
I bet you can still get Makarov ammo.

I thought the whole concept was a bad joke that would go away. I was wrong. Sales of these things are going up and up. Go figure.

Oh and nukes were not a bad idea. The numbers of KIA were going up exponentially with every major conflict in the late 19th century on. Then ww2 happened, nukes were used and after that wars got a lot smaller or didn't happen at all.

Yep its a $100 liberator.
Bury it in a 30cal ammo can with a couple boxes of ammo for a rainy day.
Put one inside a wall, ect.

I'm surprised no one in all of ww2 didn't bother to unlock the the "punch a nazi with a fist gun" achievement.

I actually saw one of these in my LGS. I thought it odd because they are definitely not on the California Roster. The clerk at the store reminded me that Law Enforcement could buy it. My response was “Why?”
Well, someone bought it.
I asked who bought it and the guy behind the counter said “We were instructed not to tell because the guy threatened us if we did.” He was laughing when he said it as was his coworkers.
I think a police officer bought it as a gag. :D

I think in some places they are the only handguns left on the shelf :( I just checked and the price has gone up $30 since I originally started this thread.

That's not bad. Some guns seemed to double in price over the same time period.
