Favorite EDC multitool

I have an older Gerber multi plier. Carbide cutters. Serrated blade, and plain edge blade. phillips and straight screwdriver. Good tool.

I like the SOG Paratool for a number of reasons.

1. Because of the unusual way it opens, your hands are on the closed side of the handles, not on the blade side.
2. Because of the unusual way it opens, it doesn't try to fold up on you while you're using it.
3. It's pretty small and flat for a full-function multitool.
4. All of the "blades" can be easily replaced and SOG sells replacements for the ones likely to need replacing--but not the knife blades, apparently.

Things I don't like.

1. The knife blades don't have stops when they close so they can get a dull spot where they touch the frame.
2. I grind the opening stud off because it tears up sheaths and pockets--but that makes it difficult to open with one hand.
3. Finding a decent sheath for it is a pain once the cheap nylon one it comes with wears out. I'm currently carrying mine in a Leatherman sheath that's just a little big for it.
4. It appears that SOG has discontinued this item.

My wife bought me a Surge as a wedding gift 15 years ago as of this coming October. It is a heavy cuss.

My current edc is a Leatherman Free P4. They are spendy, but for a tool junky who actually uses his MT on the job 4 or 5 times a day, i dont mind the 130 bones it cost me.

Wave size tool, one hand everything on the outside, new magnetic tool lock up. Plus it has a pocket clip. Plain edge, serrated, scissors, saw, and a plethora of different drivers.

Close second is a Leatherman Rebar, but i like the One Hand features of the Free P4.
I just looked up the P4....I Liiikkkeed

I have a Micra on my keyring and it is always in my pocket when I am dressed. I also have a Sidekick which I like to have on my belt when I go to the range. It has a pocket clip so I can carry it that way too, but usually I also have a knife on me as well.

I've been collecting Leatherman on and off for years. I have a Wave, Crunch, Super-Tool 300, Skeletool, Free T4, Squirt and a Micra. either the Squirt or Free T4 are on me most of the time.

I still stand by my *original* Leatherman tools.

I figure if it doesn't have something I need - I'll grab a sally-sack of tools.

I look at more modern pocket multi tools and just know that given their size and shape, that I won't carry them and then I'll have nothing at all.

Todd.

This little piece of something SOG multitool has resided in a dish on my dresser since my birthday last April!o_O
My wife gave it to me as a birthday gift, and I figured it would fit perfectly in the watch pocket of my blue jeans. It did, but as I shoved it into my pocket, the little button sticking out of the side of the multitool was moved, and that caused the multitool to spring open (the second picture). I ended up tearing a hole in my jeans while trying to get the opened multitool back out of my watch pocket.
Every time I notice my birthday gift in the dish on my dresser, I try to think of a way to fix it so that it won't spring open when I shove it into my pocket. I haven't been able to come up with anything yet though. The little button that opens the tool is right there - right in front of the pocket clip. That seems like a very poor design to me.:scrutiny:
Oh, well. That little SOG multitool is not the first less than useless gift I've ever received, and it probably won't be the last. I mean, Christmas is the day after tomorrow.;)

That’s a neat tool!

I don't leave home without one. I have the Squirt, Wave, 2 Micras, Free T4, a Surge, a Supertool, a Crunch and a Skeletool. I was impressed and curious about the Crunch thinking 'Ok, vice grips, how long will they last...' it's been over 10 years and they're still going strong. Just ordered an OHT. I won't own anything but Leatherman.

I’m really interested in the SOG multi tools but I’ve never seen one in the wild or met anyone who has used them. Have you?

I have two smaller SOG's. The Power Access and the Reactor. The mechanical advantage integrated into the pliers is very nice but some of the other fit and finish of the tools is not as nice as Leatherman IMHO. The lack of changeable driver bits and replaceable hard cutters on the pliers are also things I would like to see that I would miss from my Leatherman tools. But if you need plier power it is hard to beat the SOGs

I've been using my SOG Power Pliers for years, great tool. I had an original Leatherman, the PP's are better.

Had warranty work done on mine, sent and had it back within a week. Fixed, all blades sharpened and cleaned up.

Definitely a great company to do business with.
