357 sig......tell me more

Not sure what it is with this gun. Maybe it’s the night sights versus the standard Glock sights but my G19 is way more accurate then this G32 is. Here’s and example with AA9 and 800X

The round, ,357 sig, is capable of very impressive groups. This is me with my previous p229 (and much younger eyes). I know I found a good load when I’m doing this again:

That’s my frustration with this gun. I know it is (along with my shooting ability) but maybe it’s more than just shooting from a bench rest. I’ll keep working with it in the meantime. Thanks everyone for your inputs. Carry on.

Anybody using the Dillon carbide dies to reload their 357 Sig rounds? Any comments?

I use a standard 40 S&W carbide die just for the body and a 357Sig steel sizer for the neck....no lube is required this way.
But the nice thing about Dillon's carbide sizer is that you can transform 40 S&W brass into 357Sig (however, the neck length will be slightly shorter).

Hornady dies as well.

That's some fancy shoot'n!
I shot so well with that gun I never should have sold it. Running the target back was always a pleasant surprise. A consolation, the home I put the money toward has served my family well for years now.

Full disclosure, the distance was only 23 yards. That range had an adjacent LEO/TAC section that was 25 yards. That was on the civilian side of the range.

I have a P226 and a P229 Legion in 357sig. I carry the P226 quite often.

I have Lee dies, the Lee FCD, a 40s&w bulge buster, and a big box of 357sig brass. I haven't started loading them yet.

I like the round. I fell in love after I shot a friends Glock in 357sig, as a matter of fact, I was waiting on my paperwork while we were still at the range. Lol

I keep hearing mention of this bulge buster?

I've not found any fired cases from my guns that have bulged. Is this a Glock issue, or something else?

I'm assuming they do it to save from having the 357 SIG sizer do all the sizing. Skips the case lube process. Just my guess. I use a 40 S&W carbide sizer for that purpose.

From what I’ve read (stats) and heard from one SWAT commander back east, the Sig is the king of one shot stop rounds out of an auto loader. As a LEO that’s issued a 9mm (recently downgraded from a .40), I’d take the Sig in a heartbeat if given the choice.

It would likely be more popular for duty use if training rounds weren’t so expensive.

Totally forgot about this caliber, tell me more.
It's a bottlenecked cartridge, which means it is a PITA. I see no reason to care about the 357 Sig at all. Go 10mm. Heavier bullets are available, it's a smoker of a cartridge, and you would get the same capacity. The only sacrifice is the frame is larger. But if you are even averaged size, that doesn't matter.

My P220 will push a 140 gr Extreme Penetrator 10mm from Underwood to 1500 fps from a 5" barrel. I can get 1400 fps from my 38 Super with a 124 gr bullet from my Dan Wesson PM-38, and you don't lose capacity on the bottleneck. Granted, that's one load on the 38, but still.

I don't see what a 357 Sig does that can't be done better with a 10mm or close to as well as a 38 super.

Sorry, I know I'm being that guy, but the longer I shoot 10mm the more I love the wide ranging utility of the cartridge. 180 gr slugs at 1250 fps are a lot of juice. 357 Sig seems extremely narrow and limited. If you have small hands I get I guess.

The .357 Sig is ballistically equivalent to a .357 Magnum shooting similar weight bullets. Like the .357 Magnum, it gives up something the shorter the barrel from which it is propelled. I have .357 Sig barrels for my Sig 229 in .40 S&W. my SAI XD Service and my SAI XDsc in .40 S&W. I will get a .357 Sig barrel for a Polymer G27 that I am building. FWIW, I kind of like the idea of a 12-shot .357 Magnum. Since I only carry a 10mm 1911 or other full-size pistol in winter under a coat, I'd select either a SubCompact .40 S&W or .357 Sig for personal defense during other seasons. In full disclosure, I have carried a SAI XDsc in .45ACP though and feel comfortable therewith.

You're forgiven. ;)

If I were to suggest one of the two cartridges for someone looking to buy a new gun, I would suggest the 10mm. Because it far more versatile. However, anyone with a popular brand of pistol chambered in .40S&W, can have a. 357 Sig for the cost of a barrel. Which is actually why I shoot and carry .357 Sig. But if I had to start over, I would buy 10mm handguns over .40, .357 Sig, and .45acp.

The best thing about .357 Sig is it's about the closest we can get to 9x23 these days, and fits in the 'small' frame Glocks that 10MM's can't.
