Ruger MKIV owners - need red dot help

A red dot that I have had good luck with is a Bushnell TRS 25 it has a 3 moa dot. They can be had for less than $100 and will fit on the rail that comes with the gun. I have a MK IV 22/45 Target and have one on mine. Had it for over a year and once I got it sighted in have not had any problems with it. Another one is a Vortex Venom they come in 3 moa or 6 moa dot size. They are in the mid $200 price range. One thing about Vortex is they have a 100% lifetime warranty fix or replace is you have a problem with it. Here is my MK IV and a Glock 19 with the Vortex Venom.

I agree with Bubba. I have both a Vortex Venom and Bushnell TRS-25. I have the trs 25 on on a Ruger Mk iii. Great sight! I have had it 3-4 years and no problems at all. No problem using in bright light. I have the vortex venom on another pistol. Bushnell makes a new one RSX 100 with a 4 moa dot that looks good too!

I have a couple of the TRS 25's. One I have had for a good while. I bought some ultra cheap quick release mounts off Amazon. figuring I could easily swap the dot to different guns. For $10 I was not expecting much. Shockingly it holds zero very well moving it around. So bought a couple more. My eye's are getting old too and the Dots make shooting MUCH more fun. The TRS's get moved to my PCC's all the time and they seem to not mind the extra recoil at all. For less than $100 they seem to me to be very nice for the money.

I’m 80. The Bushnell TRS25 does it for me.

I've got a 3 MOA Vortex Venom. It was a little bit of money, and the most expensive red dot I've ever purchased, but the clarity is awesome, and, with a Lobos mount, it looks like it belongs on the gun. Nice, low profile, and seems like an extension of the stock sights on my MK IV 10". The stock sights stay in place on the gun.

I recently put a Burris FastFire III 3MOA on mine. The only down side is how much ammo I go through now. I really like how low that Vortex sits on your Glock 19 buba68! I'm going to have to start shopping for one or several . Did you get the 3MOA or the 6MOA?

I like the Burris Fastfire III 3MOA in a dovetail mount with the front sight removed.

I added a Primary Arms to my MK III 22/45. If you decide, get the low mount.

Got the 6 moa I wanted a 3 moa but 6 was all that was available. I have a Swenson slide on the Glock it was cut for a red dot sight and got the whole slide cheaper than I could have got the Glock slide cut for a red dot.

Have a Vortex Venom 3 moa on a Canik TP9 FSx and it sits low on it too.

I have an Ultra MatchDot 2moa, a TRS-25, and a Romeo5.
I can recommend all of them. All show commendable battery life, even when I forget to shut them off, especially so the Sig with shake to wake.

Crisp and dependable, even when I drop the Bushnell off the deck showing it off to friends.

With most of these the LED dot will get bigger looking with a brighter intensity, so if you find a sight you like increasing the brightness can increase the appearance of the size of the dot.
Though, diode tech is evolving so fast this may not hold true for long.

I'll add another vote for the Burris FFIII, on a Lobos mount. I was pinging an 8" plate at 90 yards with this setup on a MkIV Lite, and it felt like cheating.

Another FF III vote. I like the Burris mount.

For your budget, you can afford almost any of the good red dot sights. Three things I'd suggest looking for: 1) it comes with a low-rise mount; 2) it goes to "sleep" automatically; 3) it has a small MOA dot. I've used a Sig Sauer Romeo 5 on my Mark IV and it meets those three criteria.

I bought a Mark IV 22/45 Lite for steel shooting. Went through both a Bushnell TRS-25 and a Vortex Venom and was not happy. Ended up with a Tacticon Predator V2, as it has a larger viewing window, which is what I needed for steel and my old eyes. Cost me 30 bucks, (They're double that now) and has 4 different reticles and two colors. I use the green "Christmas wreath" for steel.

I'm 65 with poor eyes and have the TRS 25 on a couple of guns, including one .223 and they have always held up well. For just a little more money the Sig Romeo5 with the low mount is excellent and has about a 5 year battery life on one CR2032 battery.

If it's your first red dot, keep in mind that if you have astigmatism the dot won't be crisp. That said, I like the tr25 on a rifle, not so much a pistol. It's kind of bulky. I have a ff3 on my Ruger, and I like it, but my brothers cmore sight is better (and more expensive) and I don't shoot any better with the red dots than I do with irons. (Which is to say, mediocre)

I have the Vortex Venom on my MKIV, and I’d buy it again if I needed to. Works great after spending time getting used to it. Doesn’t add a lot of weight to the pistol either.

I have used the TRS 25 on a Ruger MK III and it worked fine. I have aBurris Fast Fire III on another gun and prefer it as it gives you more options on choosing the size of the red dot. Either one will work fine. You will be glad you put one on your gun. I am 65 and installed the TRS 25 on my MK III about three years ago. What a difference !

I have the same on my Kel Tec .22 and while it couldn't hold zero worth a damn on a 9mm AR, it does great with .22's. It's really bulky for a pistol tho, but the large amount of glass allows me to see more downrange.

Vortex Venom 3MOA.

This is a MK III but it takes the same sight parts as the MK IV.
