I have reloaded pistol for 5 years but I am new to rifle reloading and have a question.
I have just over 5,500 223/556 cases from range pick up that are clean, de-primed and ready to go. None of them look like these.
I picked these up at my local range. About 75 of them. The cases are labeled LC but is this some kind of military crimp? It is not like the crimp I would associate with the round band type of military crimp. The case heads are in rough shape, it is not the pictures.
Thank you for your help.

There's nothing wrong with that brass I just uses a different style staking instead of crimping and have the same effect. It is removed with exactly the same tools in the same fashion. If you have a bunch of brass you may set it aside till later if you don't want to deal with that extra step right now

I have a bunch of mil surplus LC brass with the same 4 line marks around the primer pocket. Decrimped the same as the others and works just fine. Always wondered why the different marks. I guess just different tooling used to make the crimp.

I'd never seen the 4-stake crimp on LC 5.56mm until this last lot I bought. As I mentioned, Winchester took over Lake City at the beginning of 2020, that may have been new tooling or something they brought in. Personally, LC 5.56mm is some of the hardest headstamp to read...

I consider that Lake City brass good stuff. I have plenty of it. It seems that the one and done guys are buying a lot of it, shooting it at my range and then leaving it there (for me.)

Picked up a dozen Starlines last Tuesday, first time I ever found any.

Charlie , no they’ve been doing it for years . I have a large lot of LC-12 that has the same crimp as well as seeing it on 14’s as well

I hate that crimp , in my opinion you must cut it out and not swage it . When I swaged it out it pushes out little slivers of the staking causing miss reads of cartridge overall length or head to datum measurements .

Any cases like that go in my mixed Lake city Lot

Right on! I've got a bunch of LC dating back to 05-06 (if memory serves...) and this is the first time I've ever seen it. It made me do a double-take when I saw it this last time... I just assumed. You know what happens when you assume... ;)

Wolf and TZZ use 3-point staking. That is the first LC I've seen without circular, but not a big deal, they come out the same.
