I have 4 years left on my contract. The woman's daughter took over her finances and doesn't want to honor it or reimburse my payment.
Depending how it goes. I will be back hunting on government land this year.
I am going to court if it comes down to it.Sorry to hear that. I'd try to fight it at least the duration of the contract.
It's not about money. The daughter probably needs more money to help her mother financially. You said the daughter took over her mothers finances and that is a prime indication that the daughter is giving her financial help. Today everything is about money and that includes hunting, so if you want to keep the lease offer the daughter more money. Remember, after the lease is gone there will be no chance of getting it back because someone else will be happy to step in your place at the higher price. It's all about what the lease is worth to you.
I hear that. I brushhogged the property. Pushed all the blow downs back. Planted a food plot and set out mineral licks.I hate it when you lose hunting land. When the family take conttol over the property they don't want other people useing it for any thing.
A friend had a 75 cow dairy farm and rented some fields for planting corn & grass for hay.
The old guy that owned the fields died and the one son took total control over the property and kicked my friend off of the property. He had a lot invested on them fields in his time, fertilizer, getting them back into production after years of neglect.
The son didn't do anything with the property excep let it go back to scrub again.

Last year the night before opening day she called me to tell me her son would be sitting in one of my stands and c camping in the middle of the property.
I told her to read the contract and she got mad.
Contract says I have some hunting rights for 5 years or I must be bought out for the remainder. She is trying to bluff me into backing down.

I am attempting to get it straightened out.Having two lawyers in my close family, everyone except the lawyers would be better off resolving things outside a court room.
I understand “it’s the principal” but common sense wouldn’t allow me to pay someone more than the reward I was after.

If it has to go to court. Then I will be getting more than the amount for the lease because I will have to go out of state and deal with all the hassle.
I was warned this person would probably try to cheat me right after I signed the lease.
I did tell them to buy me out. They are hoping I let it drop.I would nicely ask for whatever percentage of the money I paid I am due and move on. I'd guess this is all you can legally expect anyway. While it sucks to lose a good hunting spot, there's always that chance on any land you don't own yourself. I'd rather hunt public land with low odds than have to deal with a pissed off landowner who could jeopardize the quality of my hunt. I wonder if you would have welcomed her son last year if you would still be able to hunt there this year and the remainder of your lease period?
That is what I will be doing in the future.Hunt public land, save the money you would have/be spent on the lease to buy yourself some land.
Courts are slow, and lawyers always tell their clients to shut their mouths. If there’s not an update by now I suspect it to be working it’s way through the court.Well whatever happened?

If I did it over again. I wouldn't try to help an old lady out buy paying for a lease so she could pay her taxes. I was perfectly happy hunting on government land in the past.
I only did the lease because my brother knew her and said she was going to lose her property.
I did a lot of work that wasn't necessary because she was an old lady.
