So I recently bought my first CB revolver, an Uberti 1860 Army from Taylors. As everyone already knows caps continue to be scarce but I wound up buying 1000 RWS 1075+, and was gifted several thousand more by a friend. I bought 6 stainless nipples from Track of the Wolf (ptc-ps) since they're described as being "made to fit CCI #11 and the identical RWS 1075". According to Mako's cap sizing chart the inside diameter of the regular 1075 and 1075+ are the same, with the 1075+ being slightly taller. But fitting them onto the TOW nipps is near impossible regardless how hard I press them on. Even then it takes two blows from the hammer to properly seat and explode them.
I called Track of the Wolf and was told their nipples would never accept 1075+ caps since the inside diameter is much different from the regular 1075...
Rather than try and modify 6 stainless nipples on a hand drill lathe, I'd love to find nipples that fit my new Uberti 1860 Army AND the thousands of RWS 1075+ caps I'm swimming in. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I use the Treso ones on my Signature Colt, and on my Ruger with 1075s, and while I make sure they are seated properly 1075s are as good as anything else I have found. Far fewer misfires and jams than the factory nipples.

Really happy to hear they work well with Treso, slix shot, etc. For instance, if slix shots with 1075+caps work on a Pietta, then they'd generally work on an Uberti? Thread size and length being different of course.

I called Slix shot yesterday, he said their cones should work fine with the RWS 1075+ and my Uberti 1860 Army. He also mentioned the 1075+ is a longer cap and MAY bind up in revolvers with really tight tolerances. I appreciate his honesty so will order from Slix shot today. I'll post my results once the new nipples come in.

Malachi has the right idea.

I clamp my drill in the padded jaws of a good vise.

I would add to safeguard the nipple threads, protecting them with a couple wraps of black friction tape.

Then, on a slower speed, dress the nipples with emery cloth until the cap fits the nipple tight.

You can always take a little off, but its hard to put it back on if you aren't watching.

I did turn down one of the Track of the Wolf stainless nipples but man is that metal hard! At first I wrapped the threads in painters tape (all I had on hand) but eventually screwed it into a stainless nut and chucked that instead. It allowed the nipple to sit further out from the chuck so it was easier to work on, and I could tighten the drill a bit more without worrying about mashing the threads. I really had a rough time of it though so decided to save the rest of the TOW nipples incase I ever find the CCI 11 caps they're apparently made for.
The stock Ubertis seem softer than stainless so I'll definitely attempt all six this weekend!

Doug, How did the Slixshot nipples work out for you? I'm in the same situation. RWS 1075 plus were the only caps i could get, and of course i had to buy them in bulk. A set of nipples that work well with these is a must for me since the RWS 1075 plus caps are what i'll be using for the foreseeable future :)

Hey Jim, I have yet to take it to the range so have just been shooting caps...not too often but enough to determine which caps work for the nipples I have.

Hey Jim, I have yet to take it to the range so have just been shooting caps to try and figure this out. The RWS 1075 plus are a snug fit on the Slixshot. Putting them on with thumb pressure didn't do the trick so I've been seating them hard with a brass wedge punch from Track of the Wolf. But even then there's a cap or two that won't go off until the hammer hits it a second time. Haven't yet tracked it down though to see if it's random or a particular nipple. Not perfect but WAY better than the Uberti stock or Track of the Wolf nipples, enough to blast away for sure.

A month ago I saw here Bass Pro was again selling Remington #10's online so I ordered 6 tins. When I went to pick them up they had 4 CCI 11's left on the shelf so I bought those too. I now see why everyone here raves about the Rem 10 caps, they seated on the Slixshots like a glove and only a minimum push from a dowel has them firing every time. The CCI 11's were also a nice fit on Slixshots...maybe went on a slightly easier than Rem 10s but didn't seem loose. I tried pulling them off the nipples by hand and then with a tool but they appeared pretty snug. A trial at the range will see if the CCI's become loose while shooting the gun with powder.

I tried the CCI 11 standards on the TOtW stainless nipps which "are made to perfectly fit the CCI brand No.11 standard cap" and they still don't fit, not even close. Seat those caps as hard as you can and it still takes a full rotation of hammer blows before they fire.

Even though I have to push them on so hard and may still have a few misfires, I'll use my 1075+ caps first since they do work rather well. Very happy with Slixshot since I'm now able to use ALL my caps with these nipples.

Thanks for the reply! I think I will give the Slixshots a try. Looks like they won't have the ones I need until February though.

I only use slixshots and uncle mikes...those work and fit perfectly with remington 10s and 11s and cci11s. For homemade caps i use stock pietta nipples or the small rmc stainless nipples that are so small they only fit cci 10s. I think having a cap maker and supplies to make primer compound is always a good back up plan. Although i have about 20,000 remington 11s ...i still like to make my own caps and not waste my remingtons. Especially when just plinking/target shooting. A while back i introduced a site where uncle mikes nipples could be had for 20 bucks shipped. They are great nipples too.

I thought I read once that Uncle Mike's were designed primarily for the RWS 1075+, have you ever tried those caps? I'd love to pick up some uncle mike's but was under the impression they weren't being made anymore. Do you recall the site where you saw them sold a while back?

Found your Uncle Mike's link and they're now only $14.50 for a pack of 6. http://www.thegunworks.com/custprodgun.cfm?ProductID=457&do=detail&Cat2Option=yes

Yeah i posted the site in a forum posting and others ordered and put in their feedback. Heres the link with all that info

I ordered some and got them today. Got them in two days from the order date just as someone mentioned in the other thread.
I checked the RWS 1075+ that I have and the fit is excellent!
Also, I can't recommend this vendor enough (www.thegunworks.com). Outstanding communication, fast response time, and they make it easy to contact them.
