Best DAO Pistol Trigger (Not Striker Fired)??

There are two variants of the Px4 without the decocker: the C which is a pre-cocked hammer-fired SAO and the D which is a true hammer-fired DAO. I think both are like unicorns, very difficult to find expecially the D.

Thanks. It was the true DAO I found once and it wasn't bad, but I had been wanting the "SAO" one at the time. I'd probably go DA/SA in the future if I ever pick one up.

Traded into a S&W DAO Third Generation (think it was a Model 6946), that had a very smooth trigger on it. Never did get all that accustomed to it and went back to my more familiar Colt Officer's Model ACP

The best DAO I have seen was a 3rd generation S&W. This was back when they made so many variations that they had a decoder wheel for model numbers and I don't remember what number that gun was.

The S&W 3rd gen “DAO”’s model numbers were either XX43 for aluminum alloy frames or XX46 for stainless steel frames (IIRC). I have a 5946 and the trigger weight is about 6 pounds. It’s not true DAO in that the hammer is partially cocked and there isn’t double strike capability. Although I do like those handguns, I’d agree that the trigger action is kind of mushy.

So many variations behave like DAO (like the pre-cocked hammer fired design above) but aren’t really. The Kahrs are striker fired but have triggers that have long, smooth trigger pulls in the 6 pound range that feel DAO; I like them. The Sig P250 is a true DAO in the 6 pound range; I have a couple of those and they are good. Even some Kel Tec models use a pre-cocked hammer with 5 to 7 pound triggers that feel like DAO (PF9, P32, P3AT and its Ruger sister - the original LCP).

CZ double action triggers on their DA/SA models are so sweet, I’d bet their DAO models might be the best. I’ve never shot a Sig DAK, so I don’t know about those.

I've had several 'crunchentickers' and a few DAO pistols; S&W 5906 and 4576, Walther PP, Benelli B-76, and several Kahr's (CW9 [x2], CW380, CW40, CW45 and a K9.

The Kahrs had, by FAR, the best DA triggers of the bunch. Long stroke, long reset, spotty reliability in a couple instances (the CW45 was never-ending problems), but a just about perfect DA trigger. Someone needs to license it, it's seriously that good, IMHO.

While that may be true, it doesn't address a requirement in the OP
a DAO, but not striker-fired.

In any case the trigger of the Kahr pistols isn't a true DAO as there is no second strike capability

I hear ya Larry, Maybe the OP might try one out. Thanks for posting.

It is a striker fired DAO. Kahrs are great and a few others as well. Maybe a new thread is in order. I am curious why the OP mentioned he does not want to include them..
Regardless, I would love to see more DA pistols come out in the future. If I bought a Sig, it would be the 250.

It can make for an interesting discussion...I can think of two good reason right off the bat. Start a new thread and we can have that discussion

Years ago Beretta made a Model 92 Centurion with a DAO trigger---shot a couple of boxes of ammo and it had a great DAO trigger.
I have a Beretta 96 D Centurion DAO.
You are not kidding, that Beretta DAO trigger system is awesome!

The trigger measured a creep-free 2 lb 13.9 oz for 5 pulls with the Lyman gauge.

Stay safe.

The H&K P30 LEM has a light but long pull. I've tried them out at the LGS and decided they weren't for me. I guess they're an acquired taste.

I guess nobody has tried the Para LDA 1911 trigger ? My P12 has by far the best DA trigger I have ever experienced. I bought a complete parts kit to replace it's parts, being they are no longer made. Worked flawless for almost 2000 round so far .

Okay...here's the story:
First, I really didn't want a striker fired gun. I have a couple (M&P in .40 and .45 Shield) and I had a bunch...Walther Qs, M&Ps of various flavors, Sig 320, Glock 19, and three or four more. I just don't like them as much as I like all-metal hammer-fired guns. (Even my "plastic" guns are hammer fired: PX4s.) So I ruled the strikers out.

And I have a few SA/DAs that have been worked on so I have some nice DA / SA triggers; and my HP was "tuned."

Which left me hankering for a DAO hammer-fired gun. And based on all the advice here (plus a guy who was willing to sell a Sig 250 Compact with less than 50 rounds through it for $375) I went with the Sig 250. And I'm a happy guy. And I'll be happier still if I can find a .22 X-change kit for it.

Many thanks for all the suggestions, you all helped a bunch and I appreciate it.
