Interesting and impressive shotgun western shooting

Yeah? I did that water-swatting ducks 40 years ago. Then I got a SpeedFeed stock, didn't have to hold them in between the fingers. I used the same between the fingers method with single-shots and side by sides, also.
She looks a lot better doing it, and is faster, I will say that. :)

Yes, you don't recover from the recoil that quickly. OTOH, you don't feel it when you're trying to keep wounded bills from diving. Ours were 1 3/8's, 2 3/4", Lubaloy 5's with as much Blue Dot as you could stuff under a Winchester red wad.

Not so sure she’d be that much slower with a full blown load. Person with that much dexterity and speed would adapt pretty quick. She is amazing. Funny I caught that same vid on my “home page” OP and I must share some preferences in videos.

Hot 5's were my favorite duck load. Still have a few around. They're hard on an armadillo. They're easy for me to spot - all in older AA hulls.

I've never tried that with a magazine gun, that was pretty slick.
Used to carry two in my left hand, and two in my right fingers when using my old 20ga single shot, but that's a much easier gun to feed than a right side port pump.

I presume she would be a bit slower with buckshot, but that's still impressive shooting.

I am way out of date on CAS, a shotgun was never staged loaded when I was active. But then a lot of us were still shooting doubles which do not have a "condition two" like a pump. Apparently the pump is now considered the default and stages are written to suit it.
Single loading a '97 is a highly developed technique for the event but it just looks unnatural to me.

She's fast! Thanks for posting. It's always fun to watch a shooter who is really good. I was taught to hold extra rounds in my off hand while hunting rabbits with a single shot .22 and use it while hunting with my .410 single shot. But that was with my off only.

Cowboy Action is a lot of fun. I've considered selling a few of the guns I don't shoot so much to fund a cowboy collection. For now I "make do" with 3-Gun.

One thing I have noticed is the loading/ejection port on the M97 is
much larger than what is found on today's 870's and Mossberg/Maverick pump guns.

As I recall, SASS did not consider the 1893 pump safe for smokeless loads, along with the Marlin hammer pumps, and would not approve them for competition. When one shop had the Chicoms make up some shotguns that were essentially an 1897 action with the 1893's nearly open top receiver, SASS would not approve them, either.

As I recall, SASS did not consider the 1893 pump safe for smokeless loads,
Nor did Winchester, and they placed ads all over in a massive product recall.

Jack O'Connor said they should never be used with smokeless loads.

I knew to people who had them. Both were stolen--one by the Black Panthers years ago

Interesting and impressive, to be certain. My hat's off to anybody who can run an old piece that fast.

Nothing western about it, though.

When your board of directors is The Wild Bunch, fans of the movie of that name, you had better just get used to post frontier stuff. Turn competitors loose on it and you get some strange looking technique.

I have a few of the 1898 Marlins. I've used one for many many rounds. Still do occasionally. Nothing more than bird shot but still i enjoy it. I see little difference in the safety of my 97 and my marlin.

Both will take the hide right off the right hand though. Those actions move a mile rearward .
