I was picking up some powder for 308 load development and I saw IMR 8208, a new to me powder, recommended by the shop. It was very shiny so I bought it.

I can't find Varget so I figured why not- im now stocked with RL-15, IMR 4895, IMR 8208, CFE 223, Ramshot TAC, and BL-C(2). I got a deal on 150gn lapua lockbase bullets so that's mainly what I'll be loading in addition to 168gn SMK & Bergers. I hope I can find a good load.

Anyone using this powder? Is it a winner in 308?

Have not used it in 308 (yet) but really like it in 223. I would not hesitate trying it in 308, but I don't do a lot of shooting in 308 and just have not gotten around to it.

I bought a 8 lb jug and used it in only 223 and 308. It works well in both but I found better accuracy for less $ with Tac and CFE 223 with 150 gr fmjbt in my Fal’s. In my 3 bolt guns I have several great sub-moa loads with IMR 4064, IMR 4895, and Varget in all of them. Not that much luck with RL-15 either.
In 5.56 my AR’s like Tac, 748, H335 and CFE223 - it’s a toss up for what I expect within 200yds and a 55gr fmjbt. I think you can do better for less money but it does work Good luck and hope this helps you.

I've heard universal praise and rightly so for varget. I use Varget, 4895, and aRl-15 for precision bolt but i like easy metering powders for autofeeders. Cfe 223 is a good backup and so is BL-C(2) for ball powders but this 8208 looked like a sorta-stick hybrid.

It’s ok . Very temp stable but faster then Varget so you will not get top velocities using it . Likely not optimal for heavy for caliber 308 bullets like 190 and above . That’s not to say it won’t work with the heavies just not optimal.

I like it but have not given it my full attention because like others , I have loads using other powders that work well and still have plenty of powder to load . That said I would not be devastated if that was the only powder I had to use . I think it would work out to be quite adequate in most aplication .

I like it in the 223 with 55gr or greater weight bullets. Seems to heat the barrel a little less than some other powders.
