But no matter how much I tried, I couldn't. So the Sig P228 I picked up a few months ago has been adopted by a new owner who will hopefully give it the affection it deserves.

I could have tried the short re-set trigger upgrade and maybe a flat trigger, but I knew I'd never enjoy it as much as the 1911's. I gave it longer than I usually do. Put about 600 rounds through it, but it just wasn't for me. So, on to the next. Now that I'm heavily invested in 9mm reloading components and only own a 9mm barrel I can stick back in my 38 Super, I'm thinking about another 9mm that's dedicated to that use only. 1911 9mm? Browning HP? Any recommendations you guys have that's either SAO or DA/SA that can also have a great trigger?

You’re telling me the long trigger reach, fat grip, high bore axis, and strange controls weren’t for you!?

Get a Hi-Power. They point better than any other gun for me and are very svelte. You may have to put some $ into if if you require a nice trigger.

If the trigger on the 228 wasn't good enough then you probably better stick to SAO. Maybe you got a bad one though. But the sig triggers in SA mode tend to be as good as any non-SAO gun made. They can have pretty atrocious DA pulls though. I have a 229 that I had to replace the trigger and do some work on because it was so bad. As far as the SRT.....im one of the few who just doesn't feel they are that much better. I have only one on my sigs and wouldn't pay one cent to get it on another. Its not bad and given the choice for free id take it just because it's quicker, but I wouldn't pay any more for it.

Remember the worst phillipines/Brazilian/ mexico 1911 trigger is better than a great example from most any other gun. At least in my experience.

Maybe try a 226 legion. the one I tried had a phenomenal trigger. There's an SAO variant also. High Powers typically have pretty bad triggers particularly for SAO guns. Mine is shootable but if you're spoiled by a good trigger it'll take some money to get it right. Maybe look at a Wilson or LTT Beretta, or a CZ custom shop offering.

I may have a line on a (one of you guys can correct me if I'm wrong) Browning HP assembled in Portugal. Supposed to have factory barrel and a Kart barrel, trigger already done up. If he can find it in his safe...

I didn't realize how heavy that P228 was until I went back to the 1911 ultra compact. Feel like I lost 5 lbs.

Honestly why on earth did you expect a DA/SA Sig to be anything like a SAO 1911? The BHP is not going to be a 1911 either. Even with a trigger job by a master BHP smith it will not be the same. If you want a 1911 trigger get a 1911 in 9mm.

the Sigs 2XX guns are good guns, but I just didn't care for them over Glock.

If I was buying a target 9mm I would buy a HK P30L with LEM trigger option.

If you have big hands the USP, they made a long slide Elite model and a semi long slide Expert model, and of course a full size and compact.

For some reason it sounded to me like it's a target application for you? I read back and didn't see mention of target or carry. Either way the P30 series and USP series are offered in all sizes.

One of the reasons I'm drawn to HK s is the paddle mag release. It's nice not worrying about a mag popping out. I also like front cocking serrations (which excludes the older USP line but they are GREAT guns)

The HK USP and HK 45C, to my knowledge, have the same grip angle and "controls" as a 1911. As far as the safety lever goes it operates in the same manner. Except some can double as a decocker. Mag release is different.

Hk is tricky. There are like 7 factory versions of the safety lever. Such as "safe, fire, and decock", "decock only", "ambi", guns that have hammers bobbed.......Is a few. There's a lot though!

You CAN carry a USP "cocked and locked"

For me, the difference in the shape of the grips between the P226 and 228 make the 228's trigger feel a bit heavier than the 226's to me, although I doubt they are really all that different. I have both and shoot them about the same, and even though the 228's trigger feels different, its still a decent trigger, DA or SA.

I have a couple of HP's, Beretta's, and 1911's, and shoot them about the same too.

Personally, I think the trick to DA triggers, is to shoot them enouigh so they arent a problem, and then they wont bother you. :)

The only pistols I shoot are Sigs. Started out shooting 1911s for 20 years, (.45 ACP) then Glocks (10mm, .357 Sig, .40 S&W) for the next 15 years when they started coming out and the last 15 years or so have been Sigs (.357 Sig, .40 S&W and 9mm). I used to EDC an Officers which moved to a GLock 27 then a 9mm M11A1 and have now moved into a few models of p365. If I could choose any if would be a p365XLRX in .40 S&W 165 gr only out at 1100 + fps) But I go with the HST TE 147 gr 9mm ~1000 fps Instead.

ThaIf I was looking to get back into a relatively light (29 oz) single stack 9mm Commander I would take a good look at the Dan Wesson Vigil CCO:

Hipowers have their own charms and unique ergonomics, but the trigger is equally, uhh, unique. Not bad, necessarily, but just different. If you can get used to it, they are great pistols.

The new SIG P210s have one of the smoothest SA triggers ever- worth looking at too.

My H&K P7 has a pretty good trigger , with just a hint of creep, but virtually no overtravel and a short, crisp reset. They are a good option if money isnt an object-

If you like Sigs, I ditto the P210 mentioned above. Definitely the best trigger on any of my handguns, and the most accurate 9 mm to boot. I'd suggest the standard. The target with the fancy grips doesn't do anything extra for the gun other than the grips, and it's muy mas dinero.

I have had a couple of guns like that, so like you, they had to go. The good news is there are many more choices.

You're being too kind, NIGHTLORD40K; the triggers on most Hi-Powers are bad and there isn't a whole lot you can do to fix them. I'm not a trigger snob and I've always been a fan of the Hi-Power-in spite of the trigger.

Again nothing mentioned in this thread so far that is not a 1911 as good as a good 1911 trigger. Just get a 1911 in 9mm.

Kid you not, the new P210 trigger is as good or better than a good 1911 trigger.

I thought my bucket list was complete, then I shot one of these.........

As someone mentioned above...I didn't see what the application for this 1911 will be. Dan Wesson was already mentioned, and as owner of one I second that suggestion.

If I was in the market for 1911 9mm (again not knowing what you plan to use it for) I'd lean towards the Springfield EMP. It's not mentioned a lot but that frame was built from the ground up around the 9mm. Until you actually hold one with a loaded mag in it you can't appreciate the results of that design effort.
