i have had this sporterized smith corona o3a3 for some time and it had a stock that looked and felt like a 4x4 and thought i could get a military stock and make a fake sniper, but i found out stocks are costly and hard to find. the rifle its self is in reblued ex condition with a ex bore, i decided to let a friend who does pretty good stock work take a go on it. the stock had a very high comb and a lot of extra wood and i told him to do what ever he thought needed done to make lighter and better looking. the stock is pretty plain with out much figure. but the rifle had a good glass bedding job and shot very well, i picked it up yesterday and i,m very pleased with his work. so here it is.

Your friend does good work. While it may not have much figuring in the wood it has the lighter blonde shade I’m drawn to. I also like the recoil pad having the contrasting color spacers. Gives it a classic look at that end to go along with the contrasting forend cap. Nicely done.

....the stock is pretty plain with out much figure.....
No, no, no, NO!! You're WAY too modest. That's gorgeous!! What a nice job of utlizing the grain slightly offset to accent body where needed, and inline with form to accent length where needed. Perfect!!

Another "your friend does very nice work" comment! Classic styling, it sort of reminds me of something out of the '50s when a lot of military surplus rifles were being sporterized!

6-43 barrel date with a ex 4 groove rifleing and shoots my favorite 3006 reload of 57 grs imr 4350 with a nosler 165gr bullet at 2800+ out of a 24" barrel. when i bought it i liked the condition of the metal and the glass bedding job, it was just the over all bulkyness of the stock. it shot right on MOA three shot groups at 100 yards with the original pre worked on stock.
