I tried my best to love it...So the Sig P228 I picked up a few months ago has been adopted by a new owner who will hopefully give it the affection it deserves.

Everybody has their opinion but IMHO the P228 is one of those semiautos that they got right from the get go. The two I’ve owned and the 2nd one I still own always felt right & shot right for me. Oh well, I hope you find the one that works for you.

Hmm. I love my p226s trigger, and I'm a 1911 guy!

Never shot a 228 though I assume itd be similar..

I just picked up a CZ Orange, I would have to throw this firearm in the running for top of the line SA only firearms. Absolutely phenomenal trigger and just a great shooter.

Absolutely agree. Never been a huge fan of DA/SA guns despite owning a few CZs and most of the Sig Pseries lineups.

Wish I had got a 228 earlier, it's the one I really like as a DA/SA. The other is the 226, though since I own a Legion SAO, I'm not sure I'd be as happy going back to a DA/SA one.

The title of this thread sounds like the makings of a country song
Hey, the whole story was for me. Probably a good thing I don't drink or I mighta even tried to sing it.
Was disappointing knowing what it was, and what I had in it...then realizing it just wasn't working for me. Considered using it as a range only gun but my buddy who now owns it knows them frontwards and backwards, so it's a relief knowing it's in a better place.

I too came from 1911s. I have two CZ 75s, a B and a D. The double action pull on the B actually hurts my finger and I intend to convert it to SA. On the D I don't mind and it doesn't hurt, and the fact of the matter is that I find decocked, long first pull and no safety to be my preferred carry method.

Also someone mentioned the DW Vigil CCO. That's my other carry gun and it's awesome. Feels better than a full size 1911 IMO and it, at least mine, has a hair trigger. Good front sight too.

I have a 228, trigger is just a normal Sig trigger, It shoots Okay groups. I also have a 226 Legion Da/Sa, it has a great trigger, shoots 1 hole groups. Love both guns:) One size does not fit all, keep what you like, and as you found, there was no problem getting rid of a 228;)

I tried my best to love it... a Ruger P89.

It was very heavy for a 9mm. And it had a heavy recoil, which I found surprising, since it was a relatively hefty weapon.

I bought it cheap and I sold it cheap.

The CZ line has the same feeling for me as the OP does for the Sig 228. I really want to like CZs, but I just don't. Had a nice CZ-75B that cosmetically looked great, but the whole trigger pull for me was just crap. Heavy trigger, trigger slap and just overall bad performance. Did a swap for a Browning HiPower and was very happy with that decision.

Walther-P99-AS-Pistol.jpg Was the Walther P99 AS mentioned? It's a DA/SA....... :what:>> striker-fired handgun << . * The long button in front of, to the left of the rear sight is the decocker.
When decocked into DA, I like the very proportional (vs. pull) stacking. To me, both the stacking And the total lbs. of pull certainly feel better than on a stock HK DA (that's why I never bought the HK USP Compacts I otherwise Love).

In SA the Walther P99 AS has two different pulls. And it has a very short reset for the shorter pull: 1 of 2. Confusing? Don't be intimidated.
The only problem could be that they were already hard to spot/handle in gun stores--a year ago. Pre-Chinese Global Virus

These can be 9mm and possibly in .40. Blackish or that new weird green. "Sootch" explains the trigger quite well on his Youtube video.

The M1911 is the greatest handgun in history. Nothing has or ever will come close to it.

I am sorry you had to waste your time with another option, but in this climate firearms are easy to sell.
LOL!

I'm thinking about another 9mm that's dedicated to that use only. 1911 9mm? Browning HP? Any recommendations you guys have that's either SAO or DA/SA that can also have a great trigger?
I really like my Dan Wessons and feel they are excellent values. My PM38 and Classic Valor are among my favorite guns.

If you want to go with something different though, I'm really enjoying this.

Apparently Remington made a double stack 9mm 1911 that was Commander length. I have zero experience with Remington handguns but I think they're impossible to find anyway. I do find the thought of a sub $1200 1911 in that configuration compelling.

I do love the feel of the DW's. Would love one in the .38 Super.

You really can’t go wrong with any Dan Wesson in 9mm. I’d guess the Colts are nice as well. I really like my Springfield Range Officer Elite Champion 9mm. Shooting 9mm in a 1911 frame is a lot of fun. Don’t let the purists tease you

After reviewing all responses it seems that the trigger you long for is found on 1911 style weapons. You should fill your safe with them.
