My scout rifle project

How did you get the sight on the rear open sight? Looks good and that’s cool that it’s 2X.

Does the bolt decock when removed from the action of just a small bump, I'f so the extractor tail is worn. This make the action stiff to operate, they should be smooth. And could affect extraction some day. Other then that there's not many problems with these other then a ammo.

enjoy your scout.

Is your rifle in the original 8x50 Austrian chambering, or does it have an S stamped onto the rear part of the barrel (8X56)? The latter is far easier to find ammo for, but I've gotten used to the quirks of the former.

I've owned my M95 (refinished, but still 8x50) for about 25 years. I haven't taken her to the range in some time, but she is a fun shooter when loaded down to about 30-30 territory. Working the action tends to draw interest from other shooters.

I love the sheen on that stock!

Great looking rifle

I hit the "Like" button immediately on that one. I've done a couple scout rifle projects myself; both with no gunsmithing mounts so nothing gets "Bubba'd" and the rifle can be returned to original. Had a Leupold scout scope on my old K-98 Mauser for about 12 years before I took it off. By this year that scope was sitting in its box doing nothing so I got another mount for my Mosin 91/30 and now that one's in scout configuration. Enjoy it so much I might even use it this coming deer season when I'm in a rifle zone.

You have me thinking of putting a 2X red dot on my M-38. It already has a Mojo peep but a red dot might actually be better. Especially with a little magnification. Not a lot of dollars and I really like the rifle, and it would be great if I liked it even better.

how does the red dot work with that long eye relief and does the dot cover the target at distance ?

How did you get the sight on the rear open sight?.

Mount is by S&k. Had a little bit of trouble with it. The instructions called for reusing the sight cross pin to attach the mount. The pin is described as .096 diameter. Mine was .098. The hole in the mount was .092. Had to drill the hole out some but it worked fine after that.
