A while back a lot of the "Old West" type gun magazines were publishing photos of "Barbicane" ammunition boxes.

I have never been able to find even the slightest bit of information about the stuff. Anyone know the story?
 
I just assumed it was fantasy ammunitions boxes for one of the greatest arms designers of Victorian Literature.
 
Same. But I also figured some company must be making them. If they are, it's a pretty well-kept secret.

It is wonderful now how you can make one off items like this with those fancy new computers and printers. Seems like someone staging the photos wants something unique and nondenominational .. But as each hour ticks by I think to myself... That would be one hell of a brand to purchase. "Yeah, toss me in a few boxes of Barbicane 45 Long Colt .. Thank you" Hey that sounds pretty Boss...
 
It's very possible it's a fictitious brand, used solely because no one holds the copyright on it.
I learned a while back that cooking channels are a huge source of that sort of thing.
Next time you're passing by one, take a look at all their bottle, cans, and boxes. They always look awful familiar, don't they? Similar to about half a dozen familiar brands?
Well, unless that show's sponsored by a particular brand, always has been and always will be sponsored by that brand, they look familiar because they are similar to half a dozen brands... and identical to absolutely none of them.
That means that they won't chase possible sponsors away, won't get sued by any major companies (if, say, a recipe's published with incorrect time or temperatures and ends up undercooked, or if a gun magazine posts pictures of an antique revolver beside pictures of higher-pressure modern ammunition), and can continue to air episodes/print articles if a sponsor changes.
It happens to some extent in pretty much every media involving a product.
 
Thanks Demi... I needed the laughs...

In my world, all those years ago, the cheapest most un-reliable ammo I ever came across was the "No Name" reloads for our handguns at practice and qualifying time that my Department provided during the infrequent training sessions we had.... Some of that stuff was so bad it was a challenge to even get it into the cylinders of the revolvers we were all required to carry (early seventies). And then, of course, way back when.... we were only authorized to carry standard lead round nose 158 grain loads on the street as well.... with disciplinary threats if we were ever caught carrying decent ammo... Not funny at all but things did change over time, finally...

I saw her mugs, poor thing.
For manufacturing and selling ammunition without a license and insurance, and manufacturing firearms without a license.
I saw her your tube vids. She was kinda asking for it and she can’t just laugh like a dolphin and say she didn’t know now.
It sucks, but I paid for my tax stamps for my stuff...
