Well, in this case $201.00 dollars.

On a local site I saw the add on Sunday within about 5 minutes of being posted. Seller was asking $180 for a TC Hawken in .54 Cal. Texted the number and seller was 9 miles from me. Made arrangements to look at it within the hour.

Gun was in really good shape except for a small area of bluing around the front sight. Appears the owner tried to either remove or drift the sight with a center punch and scarred the barrel every so slightly. Also, hammer wouldn't drop without first engaging set trigger. Not a problem.

Monday I called my gunsmith who happens to be into black powder rifles as a personal hobby and he said bring it over. Dropped gun off Monday afternoon. Received call today (Tuesday) at 10 from his wife stating it's ready for pick up. Picked gun up at 2 PM. Paid him $21 dollars and rifle is now back home functioning perfectly.

I paid $200 each for a .50 TC Hawken and a .54 Renegade . I wasn’t using them and tried to sell them local for $325 Hawken and $300 Renegade . They both looked like new . It took me 3 years and I finally sold the Hawken for $300 , not any interest in the Renegade , so I am going to shoot it .

Traditional Thompson’s are funny like that. New in the late 90s my wife bought me a .50 cal TC Hawken for Christmas for $429.00. They certainly are one of the values out there in the secondary gun market right now if 1) you appreciate them and 2) can pick them up at the right price. Which appears is still the case.

In general I see traditional, non custom muzzleloaders occasionally going for some really good prices. Locally mind you, but not as a rule on the national gun auction sites.

Thats a littermate to mine.
530rb over 90gr 3f with a .015 pocket drill patch is my not-so-secret formula.
I'm guessing that is a $350 gun.
Best wishes.

For my money, 54 is the ideal deer and black bear size. I had a Renegade 54 from the original run that put round balls and maxi balls in the same group at 75 yards with 90 grains of ffg.

I would need considerably more than $200 to hand over my TC .54 Hawken.

Considerably more.
.54 Hawkens are slightly rare compared to the 15/16” barreled brethren... and the long heavy barrel offers a few advantages over them and the shorter Renegade.
