I have a Benelli pump gun in 3 1/2” magnum. I don’t hunt with it anymore so removed the sportsman’s plug. Now it refuses to cycle. When I load the magazine, the shell that is second in line outruns the first and they jam together. Do I need to trim the spring some to reduce the tension? Can’t figure it out.
Thanks,
Steve

I do not remember the Benelli action well enuf to offer anything useful, but I WOULD NOT advise cutting anything. Most likely it is something simple that a qualified gunsmith could quickly resolve.

Good news is that the magazine spring / plug has nuttin' to do with the issue. The shell stops in the receiver should keep the next round from feeding after the first round is popped onto the lifter. Sounds like a cleaning, and maybe a trip to the gunsmith, is in order. Maybe worth a check to make sure that you're using standard ammo and not ammo that's under 2 3/4" rated length.

But I'd expect that a cleaning (and perhaps use of standard ammo) is what's needed. It's not uncommon for mud or spooge to keep the shell stops from moving properly, or for folks to experience double-feeds when they try to use mini-shells.

Thanks, man. I have only tried 3” 00 buck, which is what I want to use for home defense. I’ve had this gun for several yrs. Only maybe a box of shells thru it. I’ll give it a good cleaning and check out the shell stop......maybe try some standard ammo. Stay safe.
