Buying first Colt SAA (clone) - Cimarron vs Taylor's & Co

Does anyone have one? Any thoughts?
Just get what you like and what you can afford and don't get too concerned about what anyone else thinks about it. People get pretty passionate about their own guns and that can be easily interpreted as criticism of your own choices. It's your gun - it's your choice - you don't have to defend it.

PS - it is a good excuse, though, to see some pics of some really cool guns in this thread. Wow!!

I can't add anything valuable to this great thread other than to say Taylor's have been great folks to work with. A while back I had a low wall with a trigger issue and they had the gun repaired and back to me in a week. Have three of their 45s along with a bunch of rugers and a couple of colts, like em all, but the uberti with the spring kit and 4 5/8 barrel probably gets carried the most.

I've had great luck with Uberti. I have a stainless El Patron, which I could only describe as "perfect". (.45) I also have an old Uberti "Hartford CT" model in .357, but the primers crater a bit with .357mag ammo, and ties up the cylinder a bit. Not a problem for me as it shoots a hot .38special load very accurately, and otherwise the gun is very nice. My 3rd Uberti is a real jewel, way back in the day, a friend of mine was a friend of Uberti's daughter, who was here on a sales-rep trip, and she gave (yes, gave) him a new in the box Remington Navy. (.36) It was a "ringer" of course, sample gun. He kept it in-the-box for 20 years, then sold it to me for next to nothing. That is one of the most accurate, finely finished, perfectly timed single action pistols I've ever owned, or handled. But I would say the El Patron is about, if not equal to that pistol.

My Uberti 1873 Cattleman Old Model Charcoal finish. It's basically a 3 click retractable FP version, but if I cock it really slow I can split the 3rd click into two parts to sound/feel almost as good as a true 4 clicker.. ;)

FWIW, my two Cimarron and one EMF Great Western (all Piettas) 1873s are 4 clicks.

old post, i know, but i thought id interject something here....in MY opinion, and this is, like i said, MY opinion, there isnt a SAA clone or new model ruger that even comes close to the early flat top rugers. i own a whole safe full of single actions ( been a gunsmith for 30+ years and specialize in single actions, among other things) including colts, and ill take an early flat top over any of them , any way, any day.

the ruger pictured in an original unconverted 1957 ruger flat top 357 , colt style lockwork ( 3 screw,4 clicks...today this gun in this condition can out value a colt...) and i would match it up against any of them any day. the old flat tops were so well fit and finished, and were so accurate and were so popular, colt kyped bill rugers design ( turn about is fair play, bill ruger kyped colts lockwork design LOL) and modeled the original new frontier after them. i have a new frontier 357 and it isnt half the gun the ruger is. its prettier, but in MY opinion, the ruger is a better made gun by far. ive have had a LOT of colt SAA pistols in my shop for repair over the years, and i mean A LOT. i very rarely see a ruger, be it new OR old model come in for repair/breakages, mainly custom mods...

opinions are like a**h***s, every one has one, and all of them stink (LOL), including mine id imagine, but hey, all i can speak of is what ive observed over the years and my own experiences, your mileage may vary.
