A .357 looses a lot of mushrooming oomph in a snub nose.
A .44 spec, otoh is a .44 is a .44.
No 'shroom required.

I would go with the Charter Arms .357 Magnum for a CCW piece and see if I couldn't do a little wheelin' and dealin' to get the Ruger Mk.II.

Charter Arms . I prefer the .44 Special, but with the ammo issue the .357 used with .38 Special may be a better choice.

Welp, I went to get the Charter, but then an offer of a Taurus pt99 af with 2 17 round mags in the banned state of mass was given to me. So now im conflicted. capacity or caliber? Taurus pt99 or Charter 44 spl?

Thanks for the advice. It seems it’s between the 357 and the two h&rs. The h&rs are in perfect shape. What would be better, 12 shots of 32 (6x2) or 5 shots of 357?
How many shots you have bears little relationship to how many hits you will get. For defensive use, I'd go with either the .357 or the .44.

With the exception of the Charter 44 Special, none of the guns on that list would be ideally suited for ccw work. I generally carry a jframe Smith as my carry gun. If I feel the need to carry something with higjer capacity, its an M&P Shields in 40 cal or an XDs in 45acp, along with a couple of extra magazines.

That is a hefty piece for concealed carry. If you can manage it comfortably then I would carry 15+ rds of 9mm over 5 rds of .44 special every time. Ammo selection for a 9mm is fantastic (in normal times) and will be cheaper than .44 for practice, plus the 5" barrel means you're getting the most out of 9mm and can pretty much ignore the need for +p or other gimmick rounds.

Although either the 44 Special & the 357 Magnum are fine SD rounds I too like (and reload) the 44 Special a little more. It would be my choice for SD.
I also share a liking to the High Standards but not for SD.

Honestly the size would be an improvement. Right now I’m carrying around a 10.5” long , 42 Oz revolver.

That's a tough choice. Guess it relies most on your purpose. Charter Arms Bulldog if you want to conceal. Taurus for the range or home defense.
