I can't remember ever getting scope bite and I've been shooting rifles with scopes for at least 30 years. I shot an elk yesterday morning (shooting suppressed) and have a nice cut on the bridge of my nose and between my eye brows. I got caught by a Nightforce F1 on a Tikka (.300 Win Mag). Not sure if there's something different about the Tikka stock and how it recoils for me but I'm sure this is the first time I've ever experienced this. Clearly the scope needs to move forward a bit.

I loaded some warmish 180grn Barnes X bullets (the old original blue coated ones) some time ago for my Remington Model 7 in 300 RSAUM. First (and only) round of those I fired came back and split the bridge of my nose good. My hunting buddy thought I was going to throw my rifle I was so flamed (mainly at myself). Went back to 180grn Partitions after that. Now it’s 168grn TTSX.

Only once. Super cold and crappy day, checking zero on an inline MZ.
2nd or 3rd shot the scope got my nose.
Was using my CJ hood as a rest.
Maybe a bit of air gap or ? Dunno. Peeled me up and off that Jeep.
Only time I've ever got dinged.
Bump w a red dot in the middle. Gone in a couple days....no souvenir.

Sold my 500 to a coworker, he got stitches after he scoped it.
Next yr, stitches again.

Slow learner LOL

First ever and hopefully last. Earlier this year. The second time I took the new Patriot in 375 Ruger out. The first time, I was super cautious and the recoil really wasn't that substantial. The second time I was relaxed and got bit. I was wearing shooting glasses, and contact was actually pretty light, so the "bite" was actually the nose crosspiece scraping the bridge of my nose. Nevertheless, it was an unpleasant surprise.

I've been lucky never got scoped, I've shot a lot of heavy recoiling guns. Maybe me being tight necked helps, I always try it get the scope with the most eye relief as possible.

I did get a peep sight to the forehead when I was very young, I can't remember the rifle, I have to ask my dad what it was. I think my brain blocked out that day for me lol.

I got bit in jr high shooting an enfield with a cheap scope on it.

But my most humiliating was a marlin 1895 in 444 mag. I was shooting sitting off a stump I was sitting on with a rifle my buddy handed me. I thought it was the 45-70 with the light loads. sitting, knees forward toward target....recoil knocked me clean over backwards.

I got bit with a 12 ga slug gun that had a short eye relief rifle scope on it. If you did everything right, it wouldn’t get you but that was not conducive to uncertain field expedient hunting shooting positions.

I have always had scopes of over 3” of eye relief on all medium to heavy guns since. Ive heard some say that is a workaround for poor shooting form. I call it knowing your limitations.

I've never been cut. In fact I can't recall ever being hit, but probably have had just a tap at some point. It just wasn't enough to sear it into my memory. I could see it happening more often when shooting at game. You often shoot from unorthodox positions and with the excitement of seeing an animal focus on it rather than technique. All of my scopes have near, or over 4" of eye relief. Not that I'm worried about being hit, but I find them easier to get behind and see the target with less critical positioning.

Congratulations on the elk.

Last time I shot a deer with my .300RUM.
Everytime I’ve shot a deer with the .300RUM.
It draws blood on both ends. Savage M110, with synthetic stock.

Something about differences in field shooting positions and shooting from a bench.

Let me tell you that if you've never been scope eyed by a 35 pound 50 BMG rifle, you don't know what you're missing!

Saying that it hurts like a sumbiotch is an understatement! But that's what you get for shooting someone else's .50 and taking for granted that what they told you was correct.

If you ever shoot a .50 with a collapsible stock, be sure it's locked in position! Don't take their word on it, check it (I did and it still collapsed) for yourself.

I've never had it happen

I hadn't either. I hunt and shoot everything from 338-378 wby, 7mm rum, 338 Lapua, 30-378.....

I was lining up a scope on a heavy barreled varmint/ predator gun, ( 223 or 220 swift. I cant remember but it was a gun I knew and had no recoil) with the gun on bags and sure enough.... I bore sighted and fired a fouling shot and it was like the gun hopped up and back in slow motion. Just bumped my eye brow. No broke skin. My friends were there who know what I shoot. Big handguns. Big rifles. 10 guage shotgun etc. I laughed but they were in shock.

The last time I did it was in afg. using a M24, and yes I hit my target. I have done it many other times due to bad positioning- either in training or hunting. It was always when I was under pressure to get a shot off, and always bad positioning due to the type of micro terrain and/or haste in getting the round off. I don't ever recall missing a target when I got bit. I do remember tracking several deer holding a piece of TP somewhere near or on my right eyebrow to prevent leaving a secondary blood trail.

I was sighting in a .270 for a friend of mine... with a scope. I don't normally shoot scopes, I have only 2 rifles that have them, and one of those is a .22... and I usually shoot peeps, where I get right up on them. You can see where I'm going... thankfully, my shooting glasses took the brunt of the bite, and I now have a little more respect for the recoil of a .270.

Just so you all know... it doesn't have to be a scope. I was up in WY at a long-range shoot, mostly BP and single-shot rifles. A friend of mine let me shoot his .45-90 Sharps full of black powder... with a tang sight. As I mentioned previously... I shoot peeps like I was instructed by my Army DI... I get my eye right up there. The good news is I hit my target at 900yds, but I never saw it because I was seeing stars by that time... the recoil rammed the tang sight base into my chops, I literally thought I knocked my front teeth out. As it turned out, I have a nice dueling scar on my upper lip, teeth intact... and a little more respect for those big BP rifles...

I have been bit exactly once. It was an 03 Springfield sporter with an old and odd scope. I was about 18 and it hit me hard enough to firmly get my attention but not enough to leave a mark. Knowing the history of that gun it’s one that I would love to get my hands on again. It came home from war in a duffle bag, was immediately sporterized when it was back to the US by the gentleman that brought it back. I know several member of that family and I met the man who did the work, and I know of a few other guns he sporterized, all of which are nice. Seems like he would buy whatever was cheap at the time, make it as nice as possible, and make it work for whoever needed a rifle. The gun I shot was built specifically for the mans daughter-in-law and aside from the super short LOP it was awesome.

Never scope “bit” - I am always aware of eye relief - I have been lucky. I have been bumped several times by the Vernier tang sight while shooting a Shiloh Sharps - more of a hard rub to the nose/ eye area than a thump.

Congratulations on the Elk!
I got tagged by a 300 Weatherby once. Between the eyes!

My Wife got tagged by Her 308 once while Deer hunting. She was in a stand that was a converted Duck Blind, kind of long and narrow. She had to stretch out to get Her rifle on the Deer and in the process got too close to the scope. :( It was a decent deer if I remember correctly.
