A question about displays

No, not like on my smart phone or laptop!

I would sorely love to have some sort of display case in my den where I could easily display and view some of my BP revolvers and rifles...a glass case like they use in gun stores would be nice!...but with the ever-present danger of theft (out of sight, out of mind) and ridiculous stupid lawsuits over safe and secure storage, I'm reluctant. I live in one of the most litigious, rabid gun-hater states in the union (Illinois) and frankly, I'm hesitant to 'hang it out there' as a law-abiding gun owner. How have some of you guys dealt with this issue, and are you comfortable with it? I live inside of city limits, not out in the country somewhere. Open to any suggestions you might have!

Those glass cases are locking and probably bullet proof.

Get a chifforobe or armoire from an antique store or flea market. Put a gun rack on the inside back wall, then cover it with an easily removed false back to hide the guns and rack when you are not around. Don’t tell anyone about it and don’t put pictures on the internet.

Replace the glass on your display with Lexan or something similar.

Even with locks we know it won't keep a determined thief out, but may prevent a smash and grab.

I had a Pulaski gun cabinet for 25 years in the basement sitting empty. Recently I put it upstairs in the house and filled it with black powder rifles to display them. I have cameras on my property with motion sensors that send alerts to my phone. The property is also well lit. I live in a very low crime area and am home most of the time since I’m full time teleworking. When I’m gone for a protracted amount of time ( out of town) the BP rifles go back in the safe. I don’t lose sleep over them being used in a violent crime if stolen.

You might also cover it with wireless cameras in a couple locations so that the thieves would be exposed at some point for easy identification should the unthinkable occur. Anyone breaking into the casa Woodnbow is going to be identifiable by the vehicle they used to arrive or by any number of cameras located in places they won’t expect to see them.

Lexan is tough. What I plan to do when I finish my collection of pre-hand-ejector S&W guns I will have a case with a lexan front probably 1/2” thick and lit. Hinges with security screws, and a drop-in steel front piece that can be locked in place. The steel piece would only be used when I was away from home for a few days.

I have a glass, brass and black walnut display case that came out of a VERY high end jewelry store when it closed. Too bad you live in Ill.
If you ever make it to Oregon....

I also have a large locking shadow box that would probably hold over a doz. revolvers if that interests you.

What about climate control inside these displays ? I would also like them to easily open in a way that provides easy access because half the fun in owning display pieces is handling them. A closet safe would be nice. I like the idea but apartment dwellers may not have the space. I am thinking maybe some sort of semi tall drawer setup with clear removable drawers/display cases for people with less space and lots of fun goodies.
