Your go to snack when hunting

I have this thing about not wanting to tote crinkly wrappers around if I can help it, so for the most part it's apples, bananas, and other fruits that I can eat and toss the leavings on the ground. I do take bottled water, and compress the bottle when its empty to keep it from making too much noise in the pack. Then again, I'm usually no more than two miles from my truck and always have the option to swing back around to it and grab some jerky or such at midday if nothing is moving around.

Coffee in the morning, Mountain Dew in the evening (it’s my vice) generally I don’t eat til I’m headed home or until I get home, but I do keep a pack of pop tarts in the bag just in case I get hungry while I’m out. I usually eat the pop tarts when I get back to the car.

Soda was my biggest vice too. Went from a six pack a day to none on January 1st. Miss it at times. It was almost as hard to give up as quitting smoking.

Morning hunts, swing by Casey's a couple miles from my spot.
Mountain Dew "Quickstart" and biscuits n gravy.
I work 2nds, so am hitting the field w maybe 4 hrs sleep, tops.
Normally sleep an hr, up an hr, sleep an hr and up an hr.
Sometimes do 2 hrs sleep and up for 30 mins, 2 hrs and up.
Totally sucks.
So yeah, caffeine.

I have one tradition for opening weekend (Wisconsin) of rifle season.
A thermos of coffee and a sleeve of mint Girl Scout Cookies.
Taste really good about 8-9 am when you're getting a little chilled.

Water for sure, granola bars, trail mix (homemade), Cheez-It crackers, (peanut butter filled pretzels are also delicious), and if I'm hunting out of a duck blind, a big thermos of hot chocolate!

I don't smoke but do like the smell of a pipe

I had a doe come out from behind some thick brush earlier this year at less than 20 yards and I had just sat my pipe down not 2 minutes earlier.

As far as snacks, I take jerky to the stand most days and maybe a Little Debbie or two. Not healthy I know, but it's easy.
If I'm in a box stand, I'll have a thermos of coffee. Also don't underestimate those Lunchables that kiddos love for deer woods fare. I always toss a few in the cooler when I head out. They're decent tasting and mighty convenient.

I always hunted in a very cold climate, in my spot before sun up, and if necessary, would stay until dusk, so I needed something with lots of calories for heat.

A couple of PB&J sandwiches and Snickers bars, which are almost a complete meal in themselves.

A thermos of hot coffee, and a wide mouthed empty jar, which, assuming you can find yourself in the cold, comes in handy to keep your scent down. lol

I guess I'm the only one here who doesn't take any type of food with me into the woods. I'll take some cough drops, or hard candy just to keep my throat from drying out. If I eat or drink anything I'll likely have to leave the stand early for fear of making a mess in my drawers...

Full camelback of water, extra nalgene of water, jerky, mountain house, dried fruits and nuts, instant coffee.

When you are away from your vehicle for most of the day usually hiking 8 miles in steep terrain one needs lots of water and refueling during the day as I burn about 4000 calories a day hunting in the PNW.

I usually just wait for the ants that come up and down the tree. You wanna talk about passing the time! ;)

ok real talk. It’s basically become a running joke between my oldest boy and I that we always plan out the food and water for our “next” trip out and it always gets left at camp.
