380 200 dollars for 100 rounds is that the going rate?

......Still .... taking advantage of the ignorant, lazy or panicked buyers by nicking them for as much as they can is still kind of sleazy, IMO. Something you'd expect from a traveling carnival show skipping town tomorrow, not from an established online business.
We think it sleazy because we know that's a greatly inflated price from "normal". But consider that if CTD priced that box at "normal" price lets say $35....they would undoubtedly sell out quickly. And those "ignorant, lazy or panicked buyers"? Now they don't have CTD as a source for ammunition.

A buddy of mine just moved out to the county to a house in the middle of nowhere. With all the panic & violence on TV he didn't feel safe leaving his wife alone in a house that far out, so he bought her a 380 S&W M&P Shield EZ but he only bought two boxes of ammo. He called me to ask where to buy ammo? I had to tell him he was too late, but I would look to see how much I had. After looking I could spare a few boxes but all I had were cheap flat points. I sold him 3 boxes for $10 ea he was happy to buy it so cheap. I have seen it selling for as much as $30 a box at local gun shows.

I got two boxes (50 round ea) of Blazer Brass .380 at my local Bi-Mart a couple weeks ago for about 17 bucks each (only bought it because it was there and we're low on .380, only a few hundred rounds for range use). Bi-Mart is awesome, doesn't jack up ammo prices at all; don't have sales on ammo anymore, but it's keeping pre-panic prices going (so far).

CTD has a solid reputation for price-gouging. If they sold toilet paper it'd be going for $10 a roll.

CTD is a "911" service for those who were not Able to (financially, young, or overseas), or Chose not to plan ahead for the sudden, (always unknown in advance) panics.

Don't be overly kind to these money grabbers. We all remember the $100 P-mags from the Obama years. I, and many others, unsubscribed to them and never bought anything again after that panic price hike.

Jeff H:
That is true, and I don't want them to be seen in any way as ethical, of good character.

The truly appalling action I remember after either the 2008 election, or after Newtown, was when people had ordered ammo online at CTD and hours later, CTD told these customers that they would either have to -with no other notice (and legal?)- pay extra, or lose their orders. It was something similar to this.

My only point is that what is often a total lack of foresight (excludes the underaged or broke, or living overseas) about the need to prepare for the 'next panic', allows CTD to sometimes flourish.

Kidding of course, I don't gouge. Sold a friend 100 rounds of brass .308 for $60 last night,

I haven't in the past. Im the guy who buys by the case at least. I sold and even gave away the last two or three panics. But I swear I'm making money this time if they start coming around. I've sent email and texts for 3 years. Excellent deals on ammo and I don't know of one single time anyone bought any of it.... im not going ctd level but I absolutely will make money this time. They drive 70k dollar new vehicles and eat out daily and laugh at my old 79 ranger and tuna fish or chicken and rice. Lol. but can't pay 300 dollars a case for for hst ammo. 150 a case for 22 bulk stuff..... then this time I'm up- charging
When you charge 3x more, you only need 1/3 as many sales......

Plus they probably don't run out. I haven't bought anything from them for 15 years personally. I used them back year's ago pretty often for mags and such. Back when most web sites were terrible and you couldn't find anything.. late 90s early 00s. kind of like midway likes to make theirs every update. Lol. CTD actually canceled orders that were already placed and said out of stock and relisted the ammo for double after a certain tragedy. Imo they can charge what they want but to do that is dishonest and I avoid them.

One positive though, as others mentioned, is that they are a go to source to actually get ammo. Even when the others are sold out people can get ammo from ctd in an emergency.

As another user said, I go to ammo seek. Shows in stock only and lists by price per round.

That's a valid point. The buyer is free to shop elsewhere. And if they choose not to shop around, they're also free to not buy at all.

If someone in this day and age doesn't due a little due diligence and searching then buying from CTD is on them. Simply no excuse not to use Google to find it elsewhere.

Than Dirt serves a valuable purpose (beyond starting a thread every four days). It's where the unprepared shop. We've had plentiful, cheap ammunition in every caliber for six years now. If you didn't load up you made a big mistake.
My daughter has a .380. About 4 years ago Walmart was closing out some .380 ammo. $5 a box. I bought her all 17 boxes they had. $85.

CTD is known for gouging.......
But it comes down to supply and demand.

Spot on. I'm sure the majority of us understand and support capitalism and its "guiding hand", but such moves drive me and many others to shop elsewhere.

OK maybe if should not have said gouging, greedy might be a better word.....

I would have to be desperate to order anything from CTD as I don't care for the way they raise prices sky high in shortages. (but it's free country so they can do that if they want to)
I never bought much from them anyway and after the last shortage and their price increases I haven't bought anything from them.
Do they care, probably not, but I chose to business with companies that are less "greedy".

Greedy is more appropriate and I avoid them as much as possible. That said, it seems with such a backlog for manufacturers, the "new normal" ( I HATE the phrase) will be higher prices for the foreseeable future; most likely well into 2022.

I’ve heard (for whatever that’s worth) that “oddball” calibers like .380 are only run once or twice a year. If it’s sold out, you’re out of luck until the next run.

KA head stamp? They are probably corrosive primed.

I have tons of Korean M2, both KA and PS. The only Korean I have ever seen on bandoliers is KA (FWIW).

Anyway, two bucks a bang for pistol ammo seems a bit absurd to me. Time to consider handloading?

A coworker today asked me about .380 ammo. She ended up buying 250 rds of wolf and 200 rds of Winchester. That’s 9 boxes that should normally total about $175. She paid just under $300 total. It’s not quite double normal price, but it’s not a long way off either. Makes me even happier to have bought reloading dies.

 If I can sell .380 for $2/round consistently, I'll quit my job and wind up retiring early.

Alas I probably can't. Cheaper Than Dirt -- isn't. They exist at the far end of the bell curve of high prices during panics.

.380 is an oddball caliber now? Granted it’s not .357 mag or 9mm, but pretty much every big time pocket gun for the last 30 years has been built around .380 because 9mm is a bit too spicy for most folks in a pistol that weighs a pound or less empty. .380 is a high volume round, and certainly is not a once-or-twice a year affair.

You know that how?

So the wife burned through $400 worth of ammo this afternoon. I will sit down at the Dillon tomorrow morning and replace it. Man am I glad I reload and have some supply's on hand.
