Would you trade a Glock 26 for a Colt Detective?

I truly do not care if the Colt Detectives did not sell well. No offense meant

None taken. I have a ton of guns I paid plenty for that weren't well received. Lol. I have a Bren 10. A 1006. A Grendel P-30. Several 1898 Marlins. 87 winchester. The det. Special was a hell of a hot ticket item compared to those. I'm thinking about a Mag 7 shotgun right now. Hundreds of dollars for a failed tactical shotgun that shoots proprietary 12 guage ammo that is unobtainable. Lol

I was only saying that some here talking about them being an heirloom or something is pretty surprising. They were a pretty common utilitarian gun. If it has sentimental value that's fine. I have thousands upon thousands of dollars in guns. The last one id part with ever, is an H and R 22 revolver or my grandpas M1 carbine. I have scopes worth more than both. I was just saying to me the special was Like a Glock. Which by the way I also like. I carry a 27

unless someone brings it in then sells it,

Whats that part mean. Is it not still illegal if I moved there with mine. (Hypothetical.....I dont own a 4 or 5 and dang sure wouldn't move there)

Also....just trying to help.

Surely out of the numerous det. Specials on Gunbroker one is in California. Or is that against their laws as well? I know many say no Ca sales but I haven't been on there all that long nor used it much. It sure did change the dynamic of finding rare stuff though.

Edit. Come to think of it why the heck is a 100 year old revolver off roster anyway. Lol. I thought it was modern or tacti-cool stuff

A person moving here with a legally purchased handgun can sell. Also, cops can buy guns from out of state and sell them but they cannot do it often without getting the DOJ on their backs.

Well, 6:00 PM came and went and I received no email from the obvious gameplayer, scammer, dipstick, mannerless millennial, whatever he might be. So, there will be no trade.

Mods, if you wish to close this thread it’s fine by me.

I am done with Armslist, Gun Broker, Guns Int’l, etc...from here on out.

I would. As others have said, Glocks (under normal circumstances), are everywhere.

My guess is that the guy is drinking the "social unrest" kool-aid and panicked that he doesn't have a higher capacity pocket pistol lest he somehow roll into "an angry mob" and is making a rash and foolish decision to dump a quality "low capacity" piece of mechanical art for a 10-15 round jump-jump that they can clutch like pearls out of manufactured fear. Just a guess on my part, of course. Looking at a gun cases at the LGS, it seems to be playing out as such. Gorgeous wheel guns a plenty, every plastic fantastic of all makes, models, and calibers unobtainium. I could see why they may be making a trade. I may be reading too much into his/her reasoning. Maybe they are reading some political tea leaves and are trying to snag a "high capacity" gun before legislation makes that difficult to acquire. 6 shooters are always available.

A Glock is on my short list for 2021. Due to COVID, I haven't bought a gun since January and haven't even been shooting since February. I feel I need a rough and tumble tool, maybe a 10mm like a Glock 20. However, if I had a 26 in my hand right now, I would almost certainly make that trade.
So true. I watched a bunch of riot videos and came away thinking I needed to switch to hicap autos.

That stuff will brainwash you.

I swapped my Glock 43 for a S&W Model 12 snubbie a while back ... without a second thought.. and Im lining up a trade hopefully with my Glock 20 for a S&W 686+ PC ... in the near future

Well the Single Action Army is the only worthy product to come out of colt, oh and CAR15.
And the Python? And the new Colt Cobra? And the New Frontiers? Hell, a trip to the Colt forum will tell you more about reliability. Glocks? Meh! Who need round count and plastic when steel and shot placement seem to be effective, lol.

And when you use your $2k Python for self defense do you really think you'll ever see it again?
Plastic and steel are a great advance. MIM parts all fit WITHOUT a bunch of gun plumbers' files and stones.
Shot placement means I'll have ten more rounds after your six are down range.

Love my Glock 26.3 I will never part with it. Shoots like a big gun.

I like mine as well. It did take me a while to get used to shooting it with the stock factory mags. Once I got that dialed in I dressed it up a bit and it was always nearby. I just found a cool trade and wanted to finally acquire a revolver that I have wanted since I first got hooked on badly made black and white Sunday afternoon detective movies when I was a kid. :)
Another thing is I have arthritis in my right wrist. The short grip along with recoil can be challenging in regards to pain. I adapted by adding pinky extensions to a couple mags. I also bought an X-Grip adaptor for a G19 mag and one for a G17 mag and tried those. Pretty cool concept for extending the magazine capacity and getting a better more comfortable grip on the gun. The G19 mag with the X-Grip was especially cool, except here in Granola Land you can only have 10 round mags so you don’t gain anything in that area.
But, I would be ecstatic to gain one of my “Grail Guns” through the trade of my Glock 26.

Also, I have my G45 and my two G34s to keep me company :D

:cool::D
THR member Gordon came through!

A while back I got a PM from THR member @Gordon
He asked “Do you want a nice Colt Detective for the Glock 26?”
I couldn’t respond fast enough with a “Yes”.
Long story short, lots of PMs back and forth and an education in the idiotic California gun laws on person to person handgun transfers - they can only be done face to face at an FFL store. Gordon made the long 350 mile trek south to meet me at my FFL to finalize our trade. He got a nice G26 with some mags, accessories and a little ammo and I got a Colt Detective Special that was actually carried by a Monterrey County Sergeant Detective. It’s got a little holster wear but I really don’t care about that. The action is solid and the trigger pull is Sweeeeeet!
Now I just have to wait the 10 days for the state to bless this union.

Here is my new (to me) Colt Detective Special

I am definitely stoked about this. It also came with an original box and manual.

Thank you Gordon

Here in Michigan I have seen a old model Dick Special at a LGS listed for $695.00.
It did sell since it is no longer available, the kicker was the gun was used long and hard.
Looked as it was drug behind a pickup truck, but it sold.

Check on Guns International for price's asked on Colts, they generally go for higher $$$$$$.
There ain't no way that I would have bought it.

Nor would I have bought it, too much money and too rough.
But any time you can trade a plastic gun for a quality all steel and walnut firearm, go for it.
