The only .355 diameter bullets in the place. 125gr and the label says "357 Sig"
I grabbed them up and as I went to pay, the counter guy says "Hope you're not trying to load them in 9mm. You're about the 10th person that came up here with them, but they'll only work in 357 Sig."
I replied that I'll most likely load them in .38 Super because it's too dumb to know any better.
Guy says "Don't think they'll work in it either, but if you open them you can't bring them back"
I'll take my chances...
 
Better than nothing. Seems like a good time to make your own. Plenty of lead available. Not too hard to do. Kind of enjoyable and creative. Yup!
 
Their short nose means you might have to seat them a little deeper in a 9mm pistol than most 9mm bullets, but they'll work in 9mm pistols.

They tend to work very well in a 38 Super chamber because the Super chamber generally has a longer throat than 9mm chambers. I've used many 357 Sig bullets in the Super with no issues.

Sierra's 9mm JHP bullets have short noses, too, and they work in 9mm and 38 Super chambers.
 
Next ask him why they don’t have any .454 jacketed bullets for your 454 Casull...
Or why 32 auto bullets are clearly 31 caliber.
A haughty, “These won’t work! I need 46caliber bullets for my 460S&Wesson!” should get attention.

And it isn’t just moniker. Many different bullets will do if given thought and a chance.

Luckily, there were “nine or ten” humans not as well educated as you, eleven counting the counter guy. You are smarter than eleven of ten average gun enthusiast humans.:thumbup:


My great grandmother would say to make do, or do without. I am perfectly happy with making do.;)
 
I bought two boxes of .357 Sig bullets by mistake a year or so ago. Didn't quite know what to do, I could load them in 9mm, no problem but was concerned they might not expand since .357 Sig 'typically' are quite a bit faster than 9mm. Decided to load them a bit 'warm', use them specifically in my 9mm folding Kel Tec carbine. I haven't chrono'd them yet but out of my 5" M&P, 6.1gr of Power Pistol averaged 1160fps, roughly 200fps more would be expected from the carbine from other chrono sessions. 124gr bullets.
 
Let's see, a 125 gr, .355 bullet won't work in a 9mm? Maybe he read a post on line that said the 9mm can't drive the bullet fast enough to expand? Short profile? Or he is acting out his WWW reading and expertise. One reason why I pay no attention to many gun counter clerks as far as reloading data (I have been reloading longer than many of the clerks standing behind the gun counter have been alive).

Those bullets may not be optimal for lower velocity 9mm loads, but I would bet they will feed, function and fire just fine...

our Walmart guy never shot a gun
 
I would have just told him you are loading them in .357 sig so he would just shut up and leave it be. I load 9mm and 357sig and the bullets are identical. for 357sig it just needs a longer base so as to make sure the ogive is outside the case neck and that you get proper neck tension with the limited size neck.

I could have, but my reply came out before I gave it much thought. I'd considered the possibility that they were only on the shelf because they're clearly labeled "357 Sig".

I hadn't considered that, but my dad mentioned that he was curious as to whether they were designed to expand at a higher velocity.
For my uses, expansion isn't really necessary.
 
One minor thought; as long as I can pay for an item, I don't have to justify any purchase to anyone, except my wife. There's positions that a person "needs" to be an "expert". A mechanic talking to a customer must be an "expert", the lady selling cosmetics needs to be an expert, and the guy selling gun stuff needs to be an "expert" on firearms. I'd just smile and say "Oh really" and take my bullets and leave...
