A scarce S&W .22 revolver. Model 45

I've been searching for one of these for years and finally found one at a LGS for a reasonable price. It's a S&W Model 45-2. Most of these were US Post Office contract guns and a few went to police agencies but they were never cataloged. Very little is written about these revolvers that is basically a Model 10 chambered in 22 LR.

"Trainer" is the only thing that makes sense...surprised at the barrel contour; thicker than a pencil Model 10. Neater than hell; congrats.
BTW, I'll quiz a buddy about a Model 45.

My Grandfather was a railroad conductor and had a "32" that looked a lot like that! Don't know the model other than his reference as his "32"! I don't recall a holster I think he pocket carried! It disappeared upon his death in 1969.

I was surprised at its size!

The US Post Office back then had there own police officers, these weren't for your letter carriers.

Why would they give police officers a 22 revolver? Were the Model 45s training guns?
