I snagged a Gock 17 Gen 2 in good functional shape but fairly worn finish on the slide. I don't know offhand what they finished the slide with back then, and would appreciate suggestions on what I should do to spruce up its appearance a bit. I don't want to refinish it, just mitigate some of the wear areas a bit so they're not quite so noticeable. Here's a post-degreasing pic:

Ya, I don't think I'm capable of "touch-up" on Melonite. For the time being, I decided Birchwood-Casey paste Perma-Blue. Didn't turn out too bad. Won't last, of course, but it'll do until I decide.

Send it to Jagerwerks. $50 and fast turn around. It will look brand new. I've had several done.

It's not a "coating" its a metal treatment. Also called nitride, melonite, tennifer.

Ya, thanks. Not familiar. Will have to research it. If it's not a DIY project I'm capable of maybe I'll just strip the slide and bring it my gunsmith to Cerakote w/ Sniper Gray. ;)

Cerakote is not a bad choice. But, it is a coating that "can" change critical dimensions. I tried it on a few. It was OK for what it is. I personally like the "Black Nitride" better. I use the refinished nitride far more that the cerakote and in a much harsher environment. I used to work on a salt water boat. The nitride held up way better, zero corrosion. That being said, I'm happy with the cerakote. I just don't use those in such a harsh environment. Jagerwerks does both. Same price.
