I've been wanting a hammer fired auto .22LR lately, came across a few Walter P22s but they were older styles that didn't decock. One of my regular LGS finally got a Ruger SR22 in and bought it. It definitely feels like a P22 in hand and has some weight to it compared to my other .22lr pistols.

Took it to the range the next day. I didn't get a photo of the target, but the factory sights were wayyy off. Shooting at 5 yards at a target that was about 8" or 10" square and it was hitting barely on the paper in the top left. Took a lot of adjustment to get it good. Now im going to compare this to my Taurus TX22, which is a pistol I love. I really prefer the trigger on the TX22, not a lot of take up, very positive engagement, same goes for the short reset. SR22 has a bit of travel and quite a bit for the reset and not as of a postive click when it does. It does feel good in the hand and I had one or two rounds that didn't fire but It was nice being able to double strike. Im not as fond on having 10 rd mags though and they don't seem as easy to load as any of my other .22lr pistol magazines, seems like the rim was catching on the lips of the magazine unless I got it just right. The magazines also cost more for extras. Paid about $30 for 1 extra one, which is what id spend on my S&W MP22c, the TX22 and my Beretta Neos were $20 or less. It had no issues running the Herters bulk .22lr and I ran 40 rds of CCI Stingers thru it.

So I like the SR22 but the TX22 will still see more range time. I hope to run across a Beretta M9-22 and a Sig 226 in .22LR to try out.

Thanks for the review. I've had the Ruger for a number of years and have always enjoyed it's reliability and impressive accuracy.

I also have a Taurus TX22 that has proven to be a really nice pistol. After installing a laser the fun factor has multiplied. I too favor the Taurus but either or both guns are excellent additions to any collection.

I have to say that I find the Ruger's magazines to be just about the easiest to load. That trait due to the large button used to compress the spring.

Like your collection, I have 3 of the 4 models pictured.

Have you given thought to the Keltec P17? I recently acquired one and while I love the weight of the SR22, the P17 has eaten anything I've fed it. Love the SR22, but it won't eat anything like the Keltec. Yes it's plastic, but It has really impressed me. It has even fired subsonic, which the SR22 required me to manually retract the slide after every round.

I use the Lakeline assist loader for TX22, makes it a snap. The issue for me with the Rugers is the rim is hard to insert, the Taurus it will drop right in

Keltec hasn't appealed to me yet. Haven't fired one yet though. I have fired Aguila subsonic thru my Taurus with no issue. Though I guess it should be called normal velocity since what I shot was still rated at 1020fps, not the usual 1200fps HV I fire.

Try out a Walther PPQ M2 .22. They are excellent.

I ended up trading my SR 22 for a LCP II .22. It is my wife’s gun and she likes the LCP much better. She couldn’t get used the double/single action trigger of the SR.

I like mine and have come to learn I really like DA/SA pistols. I don't know of any polymer frame .22 pistols with a DA/SA trigger other than the SR22, so I'm not letting mine go anytime soon.

I have owned the SR22 for years. It's as dependable a 22 as you will find. As long as you use HV ammo it goes bang and if doesn't it's the ammo, not the gun. I have never been able to shoot all that great with the factory sights I place the blame on a short sigh radius, old eyes, and not the greatest of factory sights. I equipped it with a Burris FF III and could shoot it much more accurately but that kind of messed it up for a small, handy, stick it in your hip pocket gun and I removed the red dot and installed Truglo sights last week. I haven't managed to shoot it yet but my sight picture with the dayglow sights is much better than with the factory offering. I think they are going to do what I want and only cost fifty bucks. The red dot already has another home and is working great there.

I was looking really hard at the Ruger, but went with the P17 because of the capacity. I love that little gun, but the wife loved it even more, so she decided it would be an anniversary present for her this year, lol.
Tried to find another P17, but the only ones I found were priced way too high, so I went and picked up the TX22. I've only had it at the range once so far, but I really like it too. Not gonna let the wife shoot this one though!

I had an SR22 and couldn't shoot it worth beans. That's likely my fault, rather than the pistol's.

My Ruger Standard 4" isn't all that much larger, but I sure do shoot it a lot better.

Is that the full size pistol? I checked them out where I bought my SR22 from. They had them in think a 4" and 5" barrel lengths, I like how they felt in hand. But they were gone in time.

I do want a Ruger Mark IV, but kinda want a Target version. Or maybe a Buckmark

Yes it is full size. Not the P22. It’s worth looking at.

The 4" wasn't badly priced when they had it. I doubt that I'll see one for awhile again, Walthers aren't big around here. I still want the Beretta M9 22 first

Interesting. They aren’t big around here either. I had to find a shop to order me one. I think it was a little over $300 a couple years ago.

Mars, congrats on the SR22 acquisition, it is one of my favorites, have ordered a threaded barrel model as well. You mentioned the M9-22. Again, one of my favs, has been a flawless performer.

Has anyone done a recoil spring and guide rod upgrade? I don't like how its not captive or even how it breaks down compared to other pistols

I installed the captured recoil spring and rod from Tandemkross. Can't say I notice any difference in shooting or anything else for that matter, but I've had it awhile and maybe I'm forgetting what the original set up was like. I've had the gun for five years.
