I've been wanting a hammer fired auto .22LR lately, came across a few Walter P22s but they were older styles that didn't decock. One of my regular LGS finally got a Ruger SR22 in and bought it. It definitely feels like a P22 in hand and has some weight to it compared to my other .22lr pistols.
Took it to the range the next day. I didn't get a photo of the target, but the factory sights were wayyy off. Shooting at 5 yards at a target that was about 8" or 10" square and it was hitting barely on the paper in the top left. Took a lot of adjustment to get it good. Now im going to compare this to my Taurus TX22, which is a pistol I love. I really prefer the trigger on the TX22, not a lot of take up, very positive engagement, same goes for the short reset. SR22 has a bit of travel and quite a bit for the reset and not as of a postive click when it does. It does feel good in the hand and I had one or two rounds that didn't fire but It was nice being able to double strike. Im not as fond on having 10 rd mags though and they don't seem as easy to load as any of my other .22lr pistol magazines, seems like the rim was catching on the lips of the magazine unless I got it just right. The magazines also cost more for extras. Paid about $30 for 1 extra one, which is what id spend on my S&W MP22c, the TX22 and my Beretta Neos were $20 or less. It had no issues running the Herters bulk .22lr and I ran 40 rds of CCI Stingers thru it.
So I like the SR22 but the TX22 will still see more range time. I hope to run across a Beretta M9-22 and a Sig 226 in .22LR to try out.
