"Scope bite" ... when was the last time?

1984 in Tombstones AZ I was shooting a 30-06. I had decided to shoot some 220gr Remington ammo just for fun.
Got to close to the scope and wham!! Cut on the bridge of my nose. Hurt like @#$=$%* for a week

I've had M1 thumb twice and M1 middle finger a few months ago. Also had various minor injuries messing with guns over the (never got shot). But never once got scope eye.

For me it was a case of it only having to happen once. Probably about 17-18 years ago and I was shooting my .30-06 at the range. The scope was cheap (so shorter eye relief), I was newer to shooting scoped rifles, and I was just too close to the scope with the rifle not held firm enough. Got a nice good whack on the eye. Not enough to draw blood, but enough to sting pretty bad.

After that I paid particular attention to shouldering the rifle properly and its never happened again. That said, I also mostly shoot .223 at the range and 7mm-08 hunting, so with their recoil being lighter its just not as likely to happen anyways.

I guess I really pay attention to eye relief since I learned long ago from my Dad as kid when he got bit...

Never heard of those, but I'm willing to learn.

Remember this in case you find a deal on an M1 Garand. They can be grumpy old farts if you not paying attention.

Mine has a problem where the enblock clip doesn't always want to go fully in place when loading. I had the action out of the stock trying to diagnose what was going on with an empty clip when I got the M1 middle finger. Need to get the m1 out of the safe and make 8 dummy cartridges and try again.

When my cousin and I were in highschool he asked a girl out, and for some reason we thought taking her shooting for the first time would be a great first date. Before we left we talked her into shooting my .30-06, and you can probably guess what happened. Got her pretty good. This was the day before her senior pictures! They never spoke again. I guess it was for the best, his current wife shoots lights out!

Been bumped a few times, never bit.

Brother-in-law went shooting with my brother, and asked to shoot his .308 Savage. USMC veteran who basically only ever shot an iron sighted 5.56 M16 or an M60. He bled, got stitches, and has a nice scar.

I got a good one years ago. I was probably 17 or 18 and we were out sighting in my dads new Ruger 7mm Mag. I grew up shooting shotguns 95% of the time and the occasional .22 and rarer centerfire rifle or pistol. Now the twist in the story is the big magnum wasn’t the culprit. I was shooting the old Marlin 336 in 30-30 to check its zero. I’d only ever fired it offhand before so the bench rest was new and I wondered why the scope picture got really narrow before I fired. That late 1970s Bushnell scope made a nice cut over my eyebrow. But I did hit the target! I moved that scope forward in the mounts and learned to watch rifles. They have short stocks and tricky things on top and recoil fast compared to shotguns.

I purchased a brand new Kimber 84M .308Win, and I dressed it up with a Leupold fixed 6x. Super light. Shooting it for the first time I loaded three rounds of 165gr Hndy SST over 45gr of Varget.

To say I was surprised with the recoil was an understatement.

“Why is there a cut on your eyebrow?” my wife inquired.

I've been lucky so far and haven't had it happen.
I've had the scope hit my hat brim a few times, but never my face/head.
But I don't shoot magnum rifles either. A .30-06 is the heaviest recoiling rifle I shoot.

Long ago right after I bought my Rem 700 30-06 it got me in the right eyebrow, I didn't even know it until I felt the blood drip out of my eyebrow onto my cheek.

Both times for when I try to shoot a rabbit with a 300 Win Mag or 20 gauge slug gun.
Blew the head off the rabbit both times but not sure it was worth that warm trickling feeling of blood coming down your face

In my early hunting years, I had put a new scope on a 270 rifle. Went to the range with a friend and had blood running all down my face. Just a bit embarrassed. Never happened again though.

I can't remember ever getting scope bite and I've been shooting rifles with scopes for at least 30 years. I shot an elk yesterday morning (shooting suppressed) and have a nice cut on the bridge of my nose and between my eye brows. I got caught by a Nightforce F1 on a Tikka (.300 Win Mag). Not sure if there's something different about the Tikka stock and how it recoils for me but I'm sure this is the first time I've ever experienced this. Clearly the scope needs to move forward a bit.

Was shooting with a few friends when a new to shooting guy tried out my 30-06. As he looked though the scope at the target and was complaining about the out of focus sight picture. Before anyone could correct him, he pulled the trigger. He bleed like a stuck pig and needed 12 stitches at the ER. His wife bitched us out and never let him go shooting again.
