I'm getting ready to buy an S&J Hardware safety selector to replace the Mossberg safety selector. In every video but one the person on video doing the work says the trigger group has to come out or else there will be parts falling into the receiver. The one video that is different has the person doing the work saying all that you have to do is leave the action open with the forend as far back as possible and everything stays where it should when you remove the screw from the safety selector in order to do the swap. The video sure made it look that easy. So, if it is that easy, why is everyone else taking the gun so far apart?

It’s easy regardless of which way you do it. If you have confidence in one way or the other way then choose one or the other.

Personally I would remove the trigger group if I was doing that job.

Neither way looked difficult, but I have always been someone that likes the economy of steps taken..."why do something that takes ten steps when I can get it done effectively with five?". Call me lazy I guess.

Have the action back because the other parts inside to receiver will fall out when screw is removed. Took me forever with a bunch of cussing trying to get it back together but that's me. I installed a NDZ the OE button is flat and very stiff.

I learned the hard way to have the action open when I replaced the plastic safety on a Shockwave. I had to remove the trigger group attempting to find that tiny ball bearing, but was easy to replace the safety with the TG intact second time around.

Easy peasy to change the safety selector when you leave the action open. Took longer to get the OEM screw backed out than it did to change it to an aluminum safety selector. I've seen the plastic safety selectors break, so, that's why I ended up changing it out.
