Hello, sorry for any confusion or offense but I realized my own mistake had prevented me from fitting the mainspring assembly in place and I didn't want to mislead anyone else with the same problem who might've come across the thread. I was attempting to use the original "base" for the spring with the new spring and rod assembly from Numrich. I was trying with the base upside down...d'oh. So, after getting it right side up, it all went together well. But. It didn't solve the light strike problem. I was still getting a couple at least out of every 9 tried in double-action. And one or two in single-action mode as well. I have yet another mainspring assembly on the way from Numrich that has a steel guide part instead of the plastic piece used on the original and the other Numrich replacement. I ordered that because the plastic piece on the replacement is already showing signs of deformation and it has barely been used. If it still isn't right after trying the newest part, I'm not sure what I'll do. I hate to put any more money into the pistol but it is in great condition otherwise. Here's hoping the steel-guided mainspring does the trick!

Hah!! I remember that plastic spacer on the hammer spring now. The H&R 929 is a cool little revolver, and shoots well, but the internals are pretty chintzy.

I would be looking at cylinder end shake next if the problem is not fixed. Then the firing pin as it is not mashed and causing light strikes. This was the problem with my 922.

Cylinder end-shake is negligible and firing pin looks unmolested on my pistol. The second replacement mainspring assembly arrived from Numrich yesterday. It has the metal guide instead of the plastic part. I'll have time to install it later and check it out. I hope it helps! Sorry for my late response but I didn't receive any notification regarding a reply to my thread. Thanks for the help!

I replaced one of those plastic mainspring ends after the original inevitably split by fabricating one from JB weld and “machined” it with a dremel tool. It worked surprisingly well for how crude the fix was — fired 7 of 9 instead of none — but the replacement part really fixed it. That plastic piece is the weakest link in those.

I had same problem with plastic one twice way back when.
I think I purchased a hammer strut from Numrich that had a metal hammer seat verses the plastic one. And that part still works fine today. Again I think as I’m getting a bit long in the tooth!
