Went shooting at the local indoor range for the first time today. Usually shoot at my buddy’s outdoor range on his property. Had my CPL course there a couple weeks ago and thought I’d try out shooting a couple of my guns there today.

Brought my 10/22 and 12 gauge. Shot the rifle at 50 yards and the shotgun at 10-15 yards. Had a lot of fun there! Definitely going back.

It was also my first time shooting slugs since the range doesn’t allow bird or buck shot there. Those are pretty powerful!

There was one other guy there shooting a couple lanes over. Later he said damn what were you shooting? We’re those slugs? I said yeah, sorry I know they’re loud. He just laughed and said it was cool. Turns out he was a fellow first time gun owner as well. He got his first gun in July while I got started in June.

Anyway it was a fun experience. I can see myself going there a lot more this winter!

Glad you had fun. None of the indoor ranges in this area allowed shotguns or rifles. I can hardly imagine how crazy loud that must have been.

Its loud when guys bring in their AR15s. But I think my 12 gauge shooting slugs is louder haha! I wore my ear plugs and my ear muffs for that!

I shoot at an indoor range every two weeks or so, they do allow slugs and rifles but it's 25 yards max.

Yes, it's LOUD. I double up on hearing; plugs under muffs.

My only complaint with indoor ranges is that it's often hard to see your sights clearly, as the lighting is slightly subdued. It can get really tough to see the front post on a black bullseye unless you have a fiber optic or a colored front sight blade. :(

I haven't had a "What a yahoo!" experience there with other shooters, the range guys are good about watching cameras and correcting unsafe handling or jams with inexperienced shooters quickly and respectfully.

Stay safe.

Drives me nuts. The targets are better lighted than the firing line. If there was a plug, I would be tempted to bring my own light.

I have often found the lighting at indoor ranges too bright, I have been using targets printed on scrap paper from work, I will try various shades of colored paper.
