Hhmm, an interesting problem. I wonder if anything similar can happen in either type of AK (47 or 74)?

Couldn't say as I'm not a AK guy and certainly not an expert.

It does "seem" like there's something specific thats going on with the bolt and charging handle that cause this on the AR platform.

Could be AR specific or an issue that could happen on other platforms IDK?

I had that happen 2 different times and figured out that the brass catcher wasn’t aligned right and was bouncing empties back into the chamber. One of the Range Officers called it a brass over bolt malfunction. We didn’t know how to clear it and ended up removing the stock, spring, and bolt to clear it.

Thanks for the reply.
So many of the things I have seen/read about AKs is that they seem to function regardless of their treatment. Buried in swamp mud? Hose it off and shake most of the water out and shoot. Sandstorm? Shake off the worst and shoot. They aren't as accurate as ARs but the 47s have a larger, heavier round (7.62 x 39, ~125 gr.) vs. the 55 gr. 5.56 ammo. Another problem is that, pound for pound, soldiers can't carry as many rounds of 7.62 vs. 5.56, but if you don't have to shoot your opponents multiple times, that almost balances out.

Less rounds and more misses... but mopowa.
Good trade.;)
I actually would prefer an SKS. If you could make the trigger light and safe.
I thought I've messed up every way possible with an AR. Now he taught me a new way to cause a malfunction.

JTHunter: the most rounds used in any of my three imported AKs is 2,500-3,000. I never read about that problem any where on the old "AKfiles".

Some foreign AKMs have shot at less than 2 MOA.. A rather small "barn door" (select-fire context).

In a different 7.62x39, which is Not an AK derivative at all, very prolific Rob Ski, of AK Operators Union (AKOA) tests his VZ-58.
* 1.64 MOA at 200 yards: "VZ-58 Czech Hammer"; Youtube, to see his target and extensive testing of numerous rifles (maybe even an AR).

I have seen this malfunction happen only once while on the range with the Army. I was working as RSO and saw this occur during a daytime qualification. I fixed the malfunction by wedging part of my multi tool (I think one of the saw blades) into the ejection port to hold the stuck round against the receiver wall and pulling (or rather the stuck soldier) pulling the charging handle back to free it. Unfortunately I didn't figure out the fix quickly enough and the soldier had to retake the test. Knowing it was probably a feed problem, I took the magazine, crushed it, and tossed it.

I have seen it once. I was testing out mags after I built my 6.8 and I stacked a few 223 rounds into a 6.8 mag and had it go nuts on me. Its a bigger deal than most folks think it is to make a mag work right.

Good info.

I liked how he called an AR rifle a modern “platform”. Some folks don’t like that but Jerry said it....

Interesting video, even for a non AR owner like me.

I don't watch many gun related videos so not familiar with gun "celebrities", but I do know his name and have seen his amazing abilities.

Wonder what it brings in for Jerry to wear that shirt with a few advertisers on it? I know I'd wear it if they paid me. lol

I think those are the leftovers/partial boxes all the ammo manufacturers sponsors give him for free!!!! He just shelves whatever he doesn't like/or isn't running good for him, then grabs a different New box and keeps shooting.

Just a guess.

Well organized and well presented. Beats all the ums and ahs videos I've seen. Good recovery from an unscripted "on air" event. Thank you.

I suspect he just harvests boxes out of the range trash barrel to make a nice gunsey background. That's what I suspect. =D

Laughed like heck over that wisecrack, true or not.
