Three inch barrel revolvers, a weakness ?

After having a couple j frames with 2" barrels and an SP101 with the 2.25", I decided I wanted a bit more sight radius and velocity but I could tell from the 4" k-frame I had that a 4 inch barrel was far too long for IWB carry. I picked up this Kimber and just as I suspected, it's perfect for EDC. It carries as easily as the SP101 did but is much easier to shoot. I'd like to get a 3" Ruger LCR in .22lr now, and possibly a Ruger speed six in 2.75-3" too.

I like 32 Long too. I managed to get a nice stainless steel 3 inch Rossi for that. Not quite as nice as an S&W, but still a decent gun, especially with Pachmayrs. The wood on your 30-1 looks much better. The Rossi is the kind Interarms was bringing in the mid or late 80's, like this: https://classic.gunauction.com/search/displayitem.cfm?itemnum=7443302

(I got the Rossi because like you said, Smiths cost like a moon shot now.)

I like that you have an RG too. Their late-production revolvers are not bad, or least not as bad as people assume. I have a 4 inch RG 38 Special like yours, but not as clean, and I screwed up the trigger by removing the sideplate and losing a spring. NOBODY works on RGs, and even if they did, it's not worth the cost. :(

I have the blued version of that Rossi from a Gunbroker auction last year. It came with the skimpy plastic grips, like-new condition, which I CAREFULLY removed and put away in a safe place, then installed a set of the "usual" Rossi Brazilian hardwood SB J-frame style grips. Shoots like a dream and I have a (somewhat) "matching" 3" .38 Rossi 68. I picked it up in a trade for a Star M30 15-round factory magazine in rough shape. A set of generic RB J-frame grips and some TLC and it is a nice little desk gun, now.

I like 3" revolvers for their balance and concealability but mostly for the sighting radius. Better than a snubby past rock-throwing range and quicker than a service revolver at smell-your-breath range. :what:

My first impressions: fit and finish, excellent. It's a nice looking gun. Trigger, both actions are kinda stiff but I'm sure they will loosen up nicely with some snap cap dry firing. The grip fits my medium sized hand like it should. Hoping to shoot it today to check out function. So far I'm very impressed with this unit.

That pistol has been worked over quite a bit by the PO's gunsmith, including cutting the chamber to accept .44magnum. No, I have not shot magnums in it, or ever intend to. In fact, didn't even know it until I discovered it myself. Then I asked the PO about it, and it was like, "oh yeah...had it chambered for .44mag". I think he shot .44mag "cowboy loads" in it and felt it put the bullet closer to the forcing cone.

So, I do load my full wad-cutters in .44mag cases, (as in the pic) as it....wait for it....puts the bullet closer to the end of the cylinder and forcing cone. What advantage that is for a close range self defense pistol, I'm not sure. Anyhow, action is tuned to perfection, and carried in a high riding hip holster it conceals very well, in cooler of cold weather. Not a T-shirt gun for sure.

I'm patiently waiting for that new Taurus,,,
The Model 942 comes in either 2" or 3" barrel length.

I'll never order a Taurus from an on-line company,,,
Their QC is so bad they let junk out quite often.

But if I can handle/inspect the gun before I buy it,,,
I might be tempted to get one of the Soulless Steel 3" models.

I’ve got this problem with 3” barrel revolvers. I could never decide which one of these would satisfy the itch, so I bought all four over a period of two years. Yesterday I got the Colt King Cobra and am really looking forward to taking all four to the range.

Am I alone in this sickness ??

You need a 2 3/4" Security Six to complete the set.

Out of a pile of revolvers by most of the makers, my 3.1" SP101 is my favorite "shorty". Danby did a great trigger job on it and the Hogue grips tamed it. A tad heavy for cc and a bit short for hunting but, darn it, I like it.

My dad bought a three inch model 19 about 1975. Round butt, blue. Sent it back and had a 4" barrel installed and nickeled. I always thought the three inch was better. My brother and then his son wound up with it.
