NRA files lawsuit against New Jersey over concealed-carry permit law - Justifiable Need requirement

Ive lived in NJ my whole life. Been tried many times. Hell we even lost the lawsuit about the 10 round mag limit recently. This state is very 2A unfriendly. With both sides of the lawmakers dems and the dem governor in nj nothing to stop them. If the runoff seats in GA go dem the whole country will be like NJ ,nothing to stop them from whatever they want. Im living it everyday.

Aint gonna go anywhere.

You may be right, but I hold out hope. Remember, we now have a reasonably reliable pro-2A US Supreme Court. It may still take years, but I think (unless Biden packs the court) that we can look for some of the more onerous gun laws around the country (California, maybe?) to fall.

Theres always hope. But Im not getting any younger and my window is closing.

I hear ya. I'm in the same boat, but I still hope to see the California "assault weapon" ban declared null and void in my lifetime.

The NRA does not have money to throw away on long-shots. If they've decided to expend resources on this then they must feel like they have a realistic chance of prevailing.

I certainly hope so- but i’m Rarely optimistic when it comes to the government

Overturning "assault weapon" bans is the key gun issue that may come before the Supreme Court. Everything else is of secondary importance. After all, you can't (legally) carry something if you can't (legally) own it. If we lose on "assault weapons," the next step for the antis would be to redefine everything as an "assault weapon."

wasn't this exact similar case recently denied by SCOTUS?
No.
You may be thinking of the GOA suit against Maryland, which is just beginning, and has not been tried, let alone reached appellate status.

but I still hope to see the California "assault weapon" ban
If the magazine ban fails in the full en banc review by 5th Circus, a vital link in the legal chain used in CA will be broken. The full 5th ruling would have extra-State implications, too.
Part of the ruling on the magazine ban is that you cannot ban a vital part (magazine) required by weapons in "common use" (which goes back to both McDonald and Heller). If you cannot create arbitrary magazine limits, because they are in Common Use, you may not, by extension, limit use of arms in Common Use, too.

Now, the NJ suit looks to be a carbon copy of the MD suit. But has less firm ground in that, unlike MD, NJ has issued a couple of CCW.

So, you're saying the Maryland case is a better 2nd Amendment case?

I believe the Mag ban in CA is in the 9th, not the 5th.
The 9th overturned it but the state asked for an 9th En Blanc re-hearing.
If we lose the En Blanc CRPA is set to try to take it to SCOTUS.
I have my fingers (and toes) crossed .

Maybe. It's splitting hairs on my part, and I'm not a lawyer nor bringing the case.

And, there's more than a healthy dose--on my part--of skepticism that NJ would even change it ways, should it lose such a case. That, they'd have to be dragged kicking and screaming into compliance.
Now, I suspect MD would no more change it's evil ways if enjoined than DC did.

I would have said that about Illinois too but for the most part the state has abided by the firearms concealed carry act.
